Have been absent for a long while...

Apr 20, 2009

...but am checking back in now.  Long story short, experienced some complications following my surgery (nothing directly related to my surgery, mind you - had to do with medication adjustments following my weight loss after the surgery) which set me back a long while and now I'm just trying to get the ball rolling again.  I'm about 100 down since surgery, 125 total since my pre-surgery weight.  Not exactly where I want to be at this stage, but just grateful I haven't packed it all back on.  I am looking to 'start over' and get going in the right direction again.  Things have been rough, and it's been tough not to get discouraged - but I just try to remind myself of how far I've come and that I would never have gotten this far without taking the first step and had the surgery.  I'll always be grateful for my surgeon and this surgery.  Because even though I'm not near where I'd like to be on my weight loss, I feel like a new person.  I can do so much more, and just the other day had to clear out about 80% of my closet because everything was too big.  That felt great to be able to do.  I hope to be able to do it again very soon. :)

Hey there :)

Nov 01, 2008

I've posted some collage photos I put together this afternoon of my progress over the last four months, and just some recent pictures of myself.  I've never made any claim of being a beauty queen! But if nothing else, these pictures show just how much better I FEEL - both physically and about myself - since the pre-surgery photos and even my 2 months out photos as well.  I can really see a difference in my abdominal area, my neck, and I know I've lost some girth in my bra area, as my size has dropped from a 58DD to a 44DD! :)

As of the end of October (4 months out from my surgery date) I've dropped 82 lbs.  I'm walking on the treadmill at the gym at least 4 times per week for about 1.75-2 miles now, and working up the courage to try the elliptical one of these days!

Cons? Fighting the urges (sometimes winning, sometimes losing) for carbs.  I notice a difference in my weight loss success depending on how my battling that demon goes.  I know better, logically - just when Oscar the grouchy pouch doesn't like to keep any proteins down, I gravitate towards foods I know will stay down.  He's getting better about it these days, but some days I still have to fight him tooth and nail on everything.

Hope you're all well and having a good Fall so far - I'm looking forward to my husband returning home from deployment in the not-so-distant future. I'm anxious for him to see how much I've lost since he was home on his 2.5 week break in August. :)

Movin' down some more!

-75 lbs down! Yay!

Still movin' on down!

Sep 08, 2008

Today I am 10 weeks post surgery, and I am down 62 lbs! *yay me!* Still having some trouble figuring out which foods agree with me and which don't - every time I think I have it figured out, I find out I'm wrong!  It's all a big juggling act sometimes, as some of you probably know! But all in all it's going well, and I feel really good for the most part, though I did manage to catch this horrible crud that's been going around - hacky cough, very sore throat,  sinus congestion, buring sensation when I cough, etc.  So I haven't been able to walk or do any exercising, which is a royal drag, as I am trying really hard to get the exercise ball rolling and KEEP it rolling.

Hope you're all doing well, feeling great, and dropping the lbs! *BIG HUGS* to you all!

Still comin' down!

Happy to report the loss of 3 more lbs. :) Yay!

Wowie!

Aug 24, 2008

Interesting! I was just curious what my BMI was now with the 50 lb weight loss.  It's come down from 67.0 to 55.3! Awesome!

For as rough as it's been, and continues to be for me some days, I'll never regret having this surgery.  I'm seeing differences everywhere.  Thank you Doc Prickett!

7.5 weeks out and -50 lbs!

Aug 22, 2008

Hi all :) Sorry it's been so long since I last posted an update.  Had to see my main doctor today for a follow-up appt after my surgery to see how my bloodwork looks, etc.  I'm ecstatic to report I'm -50 lbs down from my pre-surgery weight today! I'm so jazzed! I've posted a couple of pictures (they are hideous, don't laugh!) and you can see a difference, I think - esp. in my abdominal area, which is where I carry a large part of my weight.  I feel so much better, and anytime I start to wonder if I did the right thing by having this surgery, I'm going to come and look at these progress photos and remind myself that I did make the right decision indeed. :)

Just call me a LOSER :)

Jul 17, 2008

Hi everyone!

Wow, it's hard to believe I'm 2.5 weeks out from my surgery.  I'm actually doing very well, for the most part.  One of my incisions has decided to open up a little and drain, so I'm having to keep a close eye on it and change the dressings and put Betadine on it about 3-4 times a day.  I was having some excruciating pains in my back to the point where it was killing me to try and stand upright, but those have finally subsided, thank God.  Still having a bit of left side pain, but when I feel it coming on, I just trying to stretch out in my recliner and relax a bit, and it seems to work so far.

And I'm LOSING! Believe it or not, I'm about 28 lbs down from what I weighed in at right before surgery that morning.  I feel fabulous, in all honesty.  Sometimes I have a little pang of envy when I see my kiddo crunching on some sort of crispy food, because I'm pretty tired of the pureed foods already.  But then I remind myself of what my body's accomplished in the last 2.5 weeks and I get over it quickly.

I'll update again next week sometime probably, as I have another appt. with my surgeon on July 23rd.  Then, not too long after that, my husband should be home for a couple of weeks - I'm excited to see how much I can lose prior to him getting home.  He's been my biggest supporter through all this, and I am so excited to show him it was the right decision - not just from the weight I've lost but in how I feel.

Take care, hope you're all having a great summer! *BIG HUGS* to all y'all!

Howdy! I'm home now

Jul 06, 2008

Hey everyone!

I'm home from my surgery and doing well. Everything went like clockwork according to my surgeon.  They were able to perform the surgery laproscopically.  My sister was here to help me, and she was my angel.  I'd missed her so much and it was great having her around.  But she kept making me laugh, and laughing hurts a little right now, darnit! LOL  But I'm doing really well, incisions are doing well, and the pain and swelling and gained water weight are going down a bit now.  I have my follow-up on Wed. July 9th. I'll let you know how that goes.

For all of you wonderful folks who send messages and well wishes, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!  Please know I'll get back to you individually when I can stand to sit at the computer for more than 5 mins at a time. :) But VERY BIG HUGS TO YOU ALL! I'm so anxious to get on with the business of being a loser now!

Happy belated 4th of July, be safe and happy this holiday weekend! TTYS!
