I could cut and paste from so many others' stories - overweight all my adult life, tried every diet with some success then regained it all plus more! Now I am 49, have several comorbidities, and have made up my mind to live to see my daughter grow up, play with my grandchildren, and grow old with my husband. I was always completely against WLS and openly discussed how I couldn't imagine anyone "doing that to themselves". Then, shortly after my beloved father passed away, after years of cardiovascular problems, multiple surgeries, and stroke-related disabilites, I realized my choice was either have WLS or have other, probably more life-threatening, surgeries. Without WLS, I will surely follow in my father's footsteps, I already am, and the future will be full of pills, doctors appointments, more and more diagnoses......
Other than this pesky weight problem, I have so many wonderful things in my life - a terrific husband of 26 years, a teenage daughter who is the light of our lives, and a job I love! I have researched WLS for a year now and am absolutely sure its for me.
