12year Anniversary
Jun 14, 2023
I can't believe it is 12 years since surgery. I think I have done a great job in keeping healthy. Lots of work and determination. Wonderful family and friend support certainly helped. Here's to another 12 more.
I was featured in my doctor's newsletter. So exciting!!!!!

A Milestone!!
Jan 31, 2012
I broke the 200's. I have a 1 infront of my numbers now. OMG!!! I have not seen that for 30 years if not more. It feels good.
So, on to my next goal. Under 150. It will happen when it happens. I am confortable from here. Moving on.
It really has become everyday life. The food, the exercise..a new lifestyle that fits me fine. I often wondered under stressful times if I would go back to old ways, but I used what I have learned and kept on going. My mind said if you eat more or give up the exercise because you are stressed, it will not make the problem go away. Nothing magical in the food anymore. I get more relief from the treadmill.

What a year!!!!
Jan 02, 2012
So here it is the start of a new year and I am down 100 pounds since surgery. I certainly celebrated with the hubby to be on New Years Eve. We went out and got all dressed up and danced all night. I think it has been at least 20 years since I wanted to do that. My biggest concern was what would I wear. A big difference from having to wear what fit and not what looked good. Pantyhose was another big deal. Years of pants and now I had on a dress. What pantyhose do you buy? I bought a queen size and a regular size. I was trying to use the charts on the package, but I am only 5 ft. and it's hard to figure. So the queen size was nice going on because it was way too big and the regular size was also big and too long. Now I remember why i hate them. lol. So I spent most of the night pulling them up. It was so funny.
I danced almost every dance with no effort involved. Amazing!! What a great way to start the year. We have four months to our wedding and I am excited to be able to enjoy my new healthy life with the love of my life. He has been thorough many pounds and health issues with me and was as supportive and loving then as he is now. Now that is a real gift. Below is a picture of us on New Years Eve.
I am so thankful for all the support from my surgeon and his office, Dr. Craig Floch. He is a real scream. So much fun and on the ball about everything. I have already talked to him about becoming an advocate for new patients. He is encouraging me to share my experience. I can't wait.
And what an experience I have had on OH. So many questions answered and such positive feedback. Thank god for you all.

A month since surgery
Jul 13, 2011
Time to check in. Tomorrow is one month since surgery. I have regained a lot of my energy and sometimes feel like the Energizer Bunny. I still have days where I am dragging myself to get things done and exercise. Like today. lol
I am down 43lbs, counting the two weeks pre surgery. 23 since surgery. Had to go pick up a couple of tops and two new pairs of shorts to get through the summer. I pulled out some shorts that had not fit for the last nine years and they looked like skirts. So I enjoyed buying clothes two sizes smaller and fit my new smaller shape. I also need new bras.
I have found I have more room in my seat in the car. I fit into a booth at the resturant. I can cross my legs. I can cut my toe nails without being out of breath. I enjoy walking. My rings are very loose. I really love those positives....
Have not had a problem with any foods. I cut it all small and chew, chew and chew. My fiance' took me out to Crackerbarrel and I had no problem. I ordered the grilled chicken tenderloins. Very well cooked and moist. I got to pick out 3 sides of veggies. I asked how many ounces of chicken was in the dish. It was 4 ounces. I figured out my portion and what veggies I was eating. The rest came home for three more meals. The manager stopped by to make sure I enjoyed my food, since I had asked the weight of the portion. I told her why I was taking most of it home and she told me next time I come in to ask for the children's portion, then I won't have to pay full price for eating a quarter of the food. I thought that was very accommidating.
So all is going well. Hope all my OH friends are doing well also.

Finally I am posting
Jun 22, 2011
It is eight days after surgery and it has taken me all this time to post. I have been so caught up in what to do when that I run out of hours in a day.
Surgery went very well and I did great in the hospital. I was home in two days and had the hardest time with gas. Gas X helped a little and thank god for the pain killers. The isopure tasted like fermented fruit and I gagged. Everything I tried that was fruity was turning my stomach. I blew up from the salt of the low sodium broth and probably after surgery stuff. Meanwhile I walked and walked and walked. I think I might have made it to Florida and back; very far considering I live in CT. [A Huge exageration, but that's how it felt.] When I walked, I felt better. Standing up worked.
So on the third day home, I realized I needed my water pill back that I had taken for 30 years. I called my doctor and he gave me back half. the dosage and that helped with the bloat. The gas got better and by the fifth day home, I was done with the pain killers. I also discovered I had developed a yeast infection. Probably from the antibiotics in the hospital. No wonder I had trouble with taste. Thrush makes it hard to swallow. It was me that was fermented not the drinks. lol. However if
I never have isopure clear again, it's okay with me.
This week is great. Carnation Instant Breakfast, Greek yogurt and Cream of Chicken soup. Who would have thought these simple foods would taste so good. Still walking many times every day. I see my doctor in two days. Looking foward to many more weeks like this one.

Clear liquid days
Jun 11, 2011
Coming up to my surgery date and I have finished one of my three days of clear liquids. Am not hungry, but my stomach was not happy with the cranberry juce. I made the mistake of not cutting it with water. Everything settled down and I found the chicken broth not too bad. The sugar free Edys fruit pops were the best.
Thanks god for this website and all the postings. It keeps me focused on the prize at hand.

First Week of Pre-op Prep
Jun 03, 2011
One week down of my 1000 calorie diet before surgery. Doing well with food choices. I do get headaches, so I add a little more protein. I am getting tired. I think it might be that I am exercising a lot and not eating enough calories for the amount of effort I am expending.
Can't wait for surgery and move on.
