The Perils of Health!

Jan 30, 2010

Well, in July 2009 I was bike commuting home from work and was struck by a van. I broke my pelvis and hip, tore my calf muscle and my left rotator cuff. I was off running/biking for 4 months!

In November I began (slowly) running again. I have gained some weight back, and am now on the quest to lose 11 pounds. I have slowly incorporated Pilates, ballet, a running program geared for running the Seattle Rock n Roll Marathon in June, riding 200 miles from Seattle to Portland by bike, and doing a triathalon in August.  I believe I can get these pesky 11 pounds off.

I am sorry that the bike vs. van accident took me off my path. But I am back on!!!!

New Personal Best - 5k in 31:14

Mar 22, 2009

I ran a 5k today in 31:14. Best time ever. I am a runner! It's been just over a year, and I am a different person today. Healthy, vital, with a sense of purpose in life. Haven't felt this alive since I don't know when! For results, see: http://westendstpats5k.com/7.html

Weight loss = no more sleep apnea!

Feb 10, 2009

Well, I had my 2 year follow up sleep study last night. My first was in April 2007, when I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea. My CPAP was my friend. However, after last night's sleep study, my OSA has resolved and my CPAP is no more.

Yeah!

I felt like a "Super Woman" at the 10k Super Bowl Run!

Feb 02, 2009

Last Spring 2008 my friends and I signed up for First Strides, a program that helps you get "from the couch to running a 5k" in 12 weeks.

The program and group effort helped me to re-focus and re-introduce exercise into my daily schedule. We joined the local gym, and now my weeks include running, Pilates, spin class, and swimming. I look and feel so much younger than I did a mere 12 months ago!

My one year anniversary is March 11, 2009.

I ran a 10k (6.2 miles) on Super Bowl Sunday, February 1, 2009. I wasn't the fastest, but I finished in 1:10:25.

And I feel great!!!

I reached my weight loss goal today!

Jan 13, 2009

I reached my goal weight today. I am thrilled. Yesterday, the Wii Fit told me I had a "normal" BMI. I haven't heard those words in a very, very long time.

Today, several folks commented on my appearance, asking me if I was planning on losing too much more weight . . . Someone else said I looked "gaunt."  First thing in the morning, though, a Judge said I looked fabulous.

What's most important? Not what others say, or what they think about what I look like.

What is most important is how I FEEL. And, I feel terrific!

New Goals

Dec 14, 2008

I have 8 more pounds to reach my goal weight.

I am training for a 10k on Super Bowl Sunday.

Last October I was going through the steps to qualify for surgery. In my wildest dreams, I never would have thought the 2 goals listed above would have been in my reach!

I have a skinny WHAT?

Dec 11, 2008

So, with all the door buster sales this holiday, I traveled to Boscov's to check out some pearls. I tried on one pearl necklace (the door buster), and then a strand of pearls that were slightly larger. The sales lady said "you should go with the first pearls, because your neck is so skinny."

Huh? I don't think I've ever heard my neck (or any other part of me) referred to as "skinny."

That made my day!
