I have been overweight since my early 30's. (I'm 58 now) and I now weight 237, BMI is 40 and have several "co-morbid" conditions: arthritis (bad knees, one replacement), back pain, high cholesterol, breatheing difficulties, stress incontinence. My doctor has documented me as a good candidate for bariatric surgery due to my previous numerous attempts at weight loss. I tried Curves for over 3 years (my knees and back suffered due to my weight), Weight Watchers several times, TOPS, Atkins diet (lost 50, regained plus an extra 25#), Nutrisystem, and countless other diets and over-the-counter pills.

It's March 7, 2009 and so far I have been to one seminar, seen my Primary Care Physician and got her support, and her referral to a bariatric surgeon, set up appointment for this surgeon's seminar and gotten some info from insurance companies and the surgeon's office. I will start a mandatory physician directed weight loss program for insurance approval for the surgery once i go to this seminar. So I am ready for the journey, have taken a few small steps so far, made up my mind to follow this through. I have been writing everything down in a notebook.  My husband is supportive and might even consider surgery himself. So this is just the beginning!
