Hello, my name is Kara. My story is pretty common. I've been overweight my entire life. However, for the most part I dealt with it well. I was always able to move around and do what I wanted. However, all of that began to change for me last year. A lot of people joke about turning 30 and their bodies start falling apart, but that is literally what started happening to me. I was constantly sick, completely devoid of energy and felt like I was barely able to function. After a very difficult first half of 2010 and constantly hearing from every doctor I visited that losing some weight would probably either eliminate or significantly reduce the problem I was having I decided to take some definitive action. I started with nutrition, I was very against surgery and knew that was not for me. However, as my health continued to deteriorate I had to more carefully consider the option. As I began researching the surgery option, I decided this was what I needed to do. I decided to have the Roux En-Y Gastric Bypass. I knew it was time for a lifestyle change. What I had been doing before wasn't working anymore. So I had my surgery on August 2, 2011. So far I've lost about 45 lbs and still going strong.
