Weight has always been an issue for me. My Mom has always struggled with weight, and since about the age of 12, I've been on some sort of "diet". While I'd always been overweight, it was not until my eldest son was diagnosed with autism that things started getting out of control. In order to help me through this challenging time, I started taking anti-depressant meds, and for me, it created carbohydrate cravings like never before. A few years later, when my daughter also began exhibiting signs of autism, things just got further out of control with my weight. Now I am not able to be the kind of active, involved parent my kids need me to be, and I am so embarrased I don't feel comfortable being around other people. Strangely, I still run, even at this weight. It was something that I found to be helpful in dealing with my stress after autism came to our world. I am slower now, and constantly worry about injury at this weight, but at least it is something that is a healthy habit I will bring with me after my surgery. Surgery is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 14th with Dr. Leslie at Abbott. I've opted for VSG and debating between it and band for some time. I'm nervous, but ready and excited for this change!
