Robert Rabkin

"I had chosen Dr. Rabkin prior to meeting him based on my research of him. I met him 3 days before my surgery. My first observations were of a quiet man, who's hands shaked slightly. To be honest it made me nervous to think of him performing a lap procedure on me, but I can assure you he is very skilled at his profession and obviously only shakes outside of the OR. He complimented me on my keen knowledge of medical terms. His staff are wonderful! They show compassion for their patients. Barbra Metcalf,RN, who is the director of the bariatric program is the BEST! She is the sweestest and most caring individual. I just wish I could of seen her more, while I was there. She gives you her cell# and doesn't mind a question or concern 24hrs a day. She is truly dedicated and cares for her patients. They are strict on aftercare and provide you with a detailed red binder of instructions. For the lucky patients that live in the SF area, they have ongoing support meetings to attend and an outlined follow-up office visit schedule; not to mention the wonderfully informative and resourceful website: duodenalswitch.com Dr. Rabkin didn't really have to explain the risks to me because I had already done my homework. The only concerns he had was my sinus infection and my newly diagnosed hypothyroidism. Both had to do with the concern for anesthesia. My chest x-ray and blood work proved that I was good to go. I think he is a talented surgeon, especially when he completed my surgery in an 1hr 50mins. The average time for a DS/lap is 2-3hrs. He is highly skilled and was one of the first surgeons to do the DS laparoscopicly. That's why I flew from Ohio to CA for him. I only wanted the best. I think it's good to have both competence and bedside manner, but ultimately the competence is more important."

William Hartman

"I have an appointment with him on 4/15/03. I will review him after surgery."

Suzzette Huenfeld

"Dr. Huenfeld has been my doctor since she took over my former doctors' office in the mid-1990's. Her specialty is OB/GYN, so she also serves as my gynecologist. She is a friendly and thorough doctor, who discounts my fees because I'm self-pay."

Suzi Michaels

"I seeked Dr.Michaels out from Dr.Celiks office. Initially, I was to have Dr.Celik perform my surgery, but I encountered too many delays. I am presently scheduled with a surgeon in CA. My initial phone conversation with Dr.Michael's was very friendly and understanding of my need for surgery. Her attitude changed drastically during my evalutation with her. I felt like everything I shared with her of my life she twisted into meaning something different. I couldn't believe she did'nt understand where I was coming from. I had a bad feeling after talking to her, but still had to take a test consisting of 567 questions. I also allowed her to review my records from another agency I was associated with. One week after my appointment with her, she called me to let me know that she was advising the surgeon that she was against surgery at this time. She felt that I needed 3-6 months of therapy, before I could be approved for surgery. She gave me the chance to NOT have the evalutation sent to my surgeon, but I told her to send it. I'm extremely upset that I wasted $300 cash (I don't have insurance)for her to deny me without taking my present declining physical health status into consideration. Also, she thought I needed time to build up more of a support system for post-op incase I should have complications. I don't now or will I in 6 months have any help for aftercare. People who meet with you for one day should not be allowed to dictate your future of health. Anyone who is choosing Dr. Celik (Oregon,OH)for their surgeon should be leary of this psychologist. Dr. Celik had another psychologist to choose from; her name is Dr.Jennifer Yarab at (419) 696-7334. Do your self a favor...call Dr.Yarab. Good Luck, Julie W. "
