I think we all sit and wonder how we got ourselves here to where we are... We all have different players, but the pain is the same.  I lived the life of an obese person through my sister growing up.  I had a few ups in my weight growing up and going to college.  But nothing like what my sister had to bear.  It was in our family genes and in our environment (clean your plate, food makes you happy).  I watched my sister live the best life she could given the discriminations that came her way.  Unfortunately, cancer took her life before she could experience the help of gastric bypass.  She passed away almost 8 years ago now and back then this surgery wasn't so well known.

My weight struggle started after I married and had 2 wonderful boys.  I gained alot during my pregnancies and never lost it.  I watched and cared for my father who died of pancreatic cancer in 2000 and my sister, mentioned above, who died of uterine cancer in 2001.  My weight rocketed out of control.  Over the next trying years of new motherhood, new marriage, grieving I tried every diet known.  My story with diets is very similiar.  Three years ago I started researching surgery.  I found resistence from my primary care provider.  Looking back, I am grateful to her for making me wait and think it through.  My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and I had a new journey to travel through, first.

Now in 2009, although my mother's disease is progressing,  I have her in a safe place and I was able to turn my attention to myself.  With the complete support of my husband and now 10 and 12 year old boys,  I started seriously considering surgery again in June 2008.  I jumped through all the hoops, filled out all the paperwork, mentally prepared myself as best I could and I finally had WLS on February 16th, 2009!!

At this blog I am 5 days post op.  And looking forward to helping MYSELF down this journey.  Come and follow with me if you like.....
