Recovering!
Oct 15, 2009
Today marks one week since I had my surgery and everything is going pretty well. I'm still sore in one spot, but other than that - it's great.
I'm setting a timer to make sure I take 20 minutes to eat, eating soft proteins, only eating 3 meals a day, using kiddie silverware to ensure small bites and stopping the water 30 minutes prior.
My surgeon and her team (particularly her NP) are the best!
Have an education class today. Signed up for FitDay today; it's a nutrition calculator. I ate 155 cal. for breakfast and got in 17 grams of protein.
Yippee!

Long Walk & Daily Intentions
Aug 27, 2009
Just trying to prepare...
Yesterday, I took a very long walk (maybe more than an hour) with my DH. I couldn't believe that my lower back hurst so badly. I used to be able to walk forever. It was not comfortable.
I realized something yesterday. My realization was inspried by the people I've met through OH. I was thinking "wow, I would love to weigh 175-185" and then it hit me... after surgery, I might actually get to 125-145 lbs. I really realized what a huge change this is going to be. I need to allow myself to keep going and if my body is happy weighing less than 175, I need to let myself do that. I haven't weighed that in more than a decade. I can't imagine what it would be like to go to the Limited (or a store like that) or shop on the 2nd floor (instead of the 3rd, which is Plus Size) at Nordstrom's/Macy's and buy an outfit.
I started my morning off yesterday (and did it today as well) writing down my daily intentions, things like - I will not drink soda today (Diet Coke is my downfall), I will not eat bread today, I will walk around the block today (I ended up walking for more than an hour) and to breathe (I had an important meeting and didn't even get stressed out). About a year ago, I was seeing a nutrionist/counselor (medically supervised weight loss program) and the counselor made it a point of asking me what my weekly intentions were. The more specific they were the better. They also had to be obtainable. Seems to be working...
Also, I'm eating mostly "atkins style" to try to lose the pre-surgery weight.

Trying to Prepare
Aug 25, 2009
Well, it is really happening. I have a surgery date, 10/8/09, and my insurance approved the procedure. I am trying to get into the mode of losing some weight pre-op (at least 10 pounds) and get into the habit of exercising, eating fewer carbs, etc. - but, it isn't really all clicking for me yet. I have tried to drink less soda in the last week. I just got my surgery date last week and up until that point, I guess I wasn't sure if it was all going to work out. I was primarily concerned that the insurance company would reject my request since my BMI is right on the cusp. Trying to make friends through OH and be inspired by their experiences.
