Georgetown Medical Center

"Floor was great but ICU had inexperienced nursing staff. All physicians were great!"

Mohammed Kalan

"I had my initial eval with Dr. Kalan late March. He was very informative and answered my questions. He seemed a little rushed. He asked me if I had questions and I began and after about 2 referred me to his secretary Irene. She was able to answer my questions but I was a little put off at first when asked if I had questions then referring me to another person. Office seemed very busy. Staff all though very friendly. My main concern is they offer almost no post op or pre op support through Georgetown. Have no working relationship w/nutrition etc. Nutrition staff at Georgetown only see you inpt no outpt counseling. Basically after post op visit you are turned over to PCM for follow up. He only does the open RNY. He stated this was due to his feelings of increased risk with lap. He does other surgeries lap but advocates open for RNY due to increased chance of complications. He makes a good argument but so do lap MD's. He is assistant professor of Surgery at Georgetown and comes highly qualified. Irene his secretary is also readily available and returns calls promptly. My main concern at this point is need for a more structured pre/post op follow up in structured program vs feeling of on your own to get adequate follow up.These are just personal impressions based on my experience and am making no statement about what others experiences may be.
