Hi all...this is a first for me. I have never blogged, though I have read blogs often enough!!

I have gotten my surgery date 10/28/09, WOOHOO!! I am having a laparoscopic switch, and am SO READY!!

I had Rheumatic Fever at age 11 and of course was on cortisone and bed rest for a year with extremely restricted activities for several years after that. The weight just went on and stayed on. While I was left with no residual damage, I was extremely obese for my entire adult life. I married and moved around a bit. Then after returning home to Indiana, I develped diabetes at the age of 53, lucky enough to keep it under great control these past three years.

I have known about bariatric surgery for some time but only recently decided to go for it! What decided me was the fact that I lost my Mother when she was 57...I am now 56, and I DO NOT want the concerns that she had because of her obesity! Not everyone gets the chance to "start over" with their health issues, but this is as close as I'll come!! And starting October 28, that chance begins!!

I went through the 6-month insurance program, and managed to lose 30 lbs, putting me below the 45BMI range and making me a candidate for having the DS laparoscopically. All I have to do now is maintain this weight for the next 9 weeks...
