My Story

Dec 18, 2009

I am a 66 year old and retired. I wish I wasn't retired but if I have the surgery I might be able to move around enough to successfully be employed. I retired from the Navy in 1976 and have worked in many jobs including R&D for Abbott Labs, Technical adviser and supplier of equipment for 20th Century Fox, Electrician with the electrical union out of Dublin CA.

I had to leave that job after two knee replacements ending in January 2002.

I have been overweight almost all of my life and have all the problems associated with it including complications of Diabetes for over thirty years. When I was younger I thought it was better to work instead of taking care of yourself. Boy, am I paying for that now.

I have lost all nerves in my left leg and most in my right. The only advantage is that I do not know when I break a toe or ankle. That has happened many times. I have lost sight in my left eye, but am thank-full that I have 20/20 in my right eye.

Having had three strokes, mild ones, and one minor heart attack because of the overweight. I hope that this will wake up someone is not looking at all the problems that can happen.

I am scheduled for surgery on January 13, 2010.  This all depends if I can get the support of my wife and family. Please keep our family in your prayers that the correct choices can be made.
