Pat, here is a copy of an e-mail I sent to someone else. I have not had any complications (knock on wood). I am eating anything I want. Sometimes some foods will make me sick, even if I had them before, but I just keep trying. Beef in any form has just not done very well. No breakfast sausage either, but Italian sausage was okay. Chicken breast, okay, but thighs are better. Wings made me sick. HOT Thai food was fine, Chinese has worked 3 times and once I threw up (the last time) Shrimp and fish, no problems at all. Protein bars, snacks, brownies, all no problem. All veggies (cooked) I have no desire for salad, so have not tried. I am using chewable vitamins and B-12, but don't know if I have any deficiencies. Went for blood work a week ago and waiting on results. I took a shower the day after I got home. Washed incision with regular soap. I feel unbelievably WONDERFUL! I have more energy than I knew people could have! I sometimes miss food. And I hate the way I feel when I overeat or eat something that does not agree with me. As soon as I start drinking after a meal, I get hungry, but don't let myself have a snack until I get the required water in. Here is my eating day:
Get up - start with watered down orange juice with lots of ice, finish by the time I get to work (1 huge glass)
Coffee at work
2 tbs of grape nuts - dry (to help with daily BM)
Start on water to wash the caffeine out of my intestines so it does not interfere with my vitamins
1 hour or so after I finished my coffee I have my vitamins
10:00 - breakfast - usually ½ of my lunch - I do okay on eggs and bacon, but it is easier to eat ½ of my lunch
11:00 -finish the huge glass of water (before lunch)
12:00 - lunch - usually 4 oz. of protein and some rice
1:30 - start on another huge glass of water
3:30 - snack - sometimes it will be leftover lunch or a part of a frozen meal or some sesame sticks or soy crisps (from Publix)
6:00 - I am starved by the time I get home! I try to have some cashews right away so I am at least having protein. Supper will be usually fish and veggie
8:00 - large glass of orange juice with benefiber before bed (while watching tv)(to help with BM)
This is by no means what I was able to have post op. I did not get fiber or liquids in for several weeks, but it comes. I can now gulp half a glass of water at one time. I did not eat at all for about the first 5 days post op - maybe a popsicle or a little broth (it tasted yukky) or a little jello, but nothing you could really count for anything.
I have lost 66 pounds - 46 since surgery 9 weeks ago. On the weekends I have to remind myself to eat and drink, because when I am busy - I do forget to eat and don't feel really hungry. My portions are very decreased. For a weekend breakfast I can have less than 1 egg scrambled, 1 piece of bacon and 1/4 piece of toast.
