I, like so many others that chose to have RNY surgery, have struggled with my weight my entire life. My grandmother often reminds me that I knew how many calories there were in a slice of cheese at age 4. Food has always been an issue for me.
To complicate things, I have diabetes on both sides of my family. I sat in the hospital with my Grandfather during both of his leg amputations and got a glimpse of my future. I did not enjoy watching him struggle and did not want to think about going through that myself.
Four years ago I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Then the final straw came when I started having such severe back pain that I was going to get steroid shots in my spine. They only relieved the pain for a short time.
I have a wonderful husband and two young children. I decided that I wanted to live life to the fullest and be the best wife and mom that I could. To me, this means having energy and not being held back by my physical short-comings so that I can do whatever it is that they want to do...run, swim, play soccer, tennis or whatever they can dream up.
I had the surgery in November of 2012 and have already seen a great improvement in my health. I can pick my children up and play with them without getting winded. I still have a long way to go on my journey, but I am determined to work on this every day!!!
I am so thankful for a site like this, that helps me gain ideas and feedback from others that have come before me and know more about what it takes to be successful long term.
