1 Year Post Op--A little late! :-)

May 30, 2009

I cannot believe it's been a year!

I struggle with my sugar addiction everyday but am able to keep it under control .  It IS NOT EASY!!!!  Never let anyone tell you it is easy!  In the beginning it wasn't too bad but now the mental addiction behavior is hard to deal with.

I do not get physically hungry.

I can eat 1/2-1C of food  at  a meal and be  full.

I still follow the rules and do not drink when I eat.  I even watch the clock.

I still food journal everyday.  I have had some BAD days but I get right back to it!

I still exercise everyday and have started P90X!  What a workout!!!

My weight does fluxuate between 120 and 135.  I do not like getting up to 135.  Who would've thought I'd ever say that?  LOL  I have to say that I really like 120.  When you are trim and fit you can really see where you put on the weight.  Even if people say things like: "You look drawn"...I say: "Well, if I gain weight it's only fat and that's not good"   I officially have a "trouble spot" and it is the love handles!  LOL  When you weigh 120 you know exactly where you put weight on.

I can officially tell when I am bloated!  I guess I never saw the difference at 250 lbs.

My life has totally changed since surgery.  All for the better and I would do it over and over if I had to.  I have no regrets!!  I am amazed at the things I can do.  I surprise myself about once a week with things like darting around the house outside and chasing my kids without getting winded, walking fast and not thinking twice about it.  Carrying shopping bags without getting tired.  (This is from strength training and P90X)  I should write them down as they happen because it is just amazing!  I treasure each victory because it makes me feel great.  I may not share as they happen because I don't want people to think that's all I talk about but boy do I smile and enjoy the moment!

I wish everyone the very best.  You can do this!  Stay motivated and have a positive attitude and you will not believe the super changes that take place in your life.

I will attempt to keep my blog updated!

New Favorite Breakfast/Snack!

Mar 27, 2009

I got this wonderful pancake recipe from Oxygen Magazine.

4 egg whites
1T favorite nut butter (I use almond)
1T Honey (they use stevia in the magazine recipe)
1t cinnamon
1/3 C old fashioned oats

Blend all together and pour into a large frying pan (preheated on medium/ medium low and sprayed with olive oil)  Cook until edges look ready and flip.  Flipping is tricky and can be messy.

This baby is 2 servings ( well maybe 3-4 for us)  Any way the entire thing is 268 calories and 17g protein so I munch on it for an entire morning.  It is good cold also so it is easily portable!

11 Months Out and Giving Up Cereal!!!!

Feb 28, 2009

Today is my 11 month surgiversary!  Pre op I had a nighttime ice cream habit--A really bad one!  Tonight I realized that I have been eating an unjounaled serving of "healthy" cereal at night!  HMMMMM--replacement habit?  Since I have chosen to change my lifestyle to include clean eating I have officially decided to drop any and all cereal with the exception of granola on my yogurt!  So, once my current box is gone and only eaten if journaled, I am done!  One more thing from a box out of my life.  Slowly but surely they are being eliminated!!  Whoo Hoo!!!

Remembering My Childhood Obesity!

Feb 18, 2009

Today as I was stretching I realized some things....When I was in elementary school I always hated tornado drills.  Not because they were scary but because we were forced to sit on our knees and tuck into a ball with a book on our heads for what seemed like long periods of time.  I just could not do it.  The teacher always had to come by and say: "get down further" well--guess what????  My belly was always in the way and I could never breathe.  How sad.  I went to Eddie Bauer outlet today just for fun and tried on clothes.  Well--some of their size 2's were too baggy.  I remember a time when my mom took me shopping for jeans, I must have been 10-12 years old.  The girls sizes didn't fit anymore so we had to go to ladies sizes and I must have tried on 20 pair.  They were all too long of course.  After a lot of tears we finally bought a pair but it was humiliating and depressing.    I am so thankful for WLS and how it has changed my life.  I can tuck into a ball and shop at the other end of the rack!  I can move without being short of breath.  I have confidence.  I wish all of you the very best in your journeys.  Enjoy every moment like these, you deserve it!!!

God's Candy

Jan 23, 2009

As I am increasing my variety in foods I have been trying to "eat from the earth" as much as possible.  I still have the occasional protein bar  and cereal for the fiber!

I like berries but boy since I haven't been eating sugar............they taste like candy!  I guess this is the way God intended for fruit to taste.  Apples also have never tasted sweeter.  I find this absolutely amazing and am STARTING to look forward to fruit the way I used to look forward to ice cream.  What an amazing discovery.  I cannot wait for blueberry season!  I am going to pick and freeze like crazy for next winter!!!

9 Months Post Op!

Jan 04, 2009

9 months have gone by so quickly.  My life with food has been completely changed.  I feel like I have control.  I do not have cravings and RARELY have the hungry feeling!  I will go into detail when I hit my 1 year surgiversary.  I couldn't be happier with my decision to have surgery.  I have put 100% into this and I feel like I am getting 100% out of it  I am a faithful food journaler and exerciser and it all makes me feel so good.  Best wishes to all those researching!
