So, I am 48 and weigh 289. Been married for 6 years, no children. I have 4 greyhounds that keep me busy along with 2 cats. 2of the greyhounds are ex racers, the other two are rejects from racing....we're known as the Pocono Black Pack cause they are all black greyhounds.
I have been obese ever since I can remember. In fact, as part of the pre surgery evaluations, I examined childhood photos... I have the same thighs now as I did when I was 4!!! All through school, I was taunted because of weight. I focused on academics and went on to college and graduate school.
About 1996, I was told I had 'little bit of sugar'....talk about a soft served diagnosis! Anyway, things progressed to where I have 'alot of sugar' and take insulin, avandia and metformin! HBP and high cholestrol, too.
I've been thinking about WLS for some time, in fact three years I approached my primary care physician about it... he said I was not a candidate.
Blood sugars remained out of control. In December of 2007, my A1C was over 12...my endocrinologist suggested that WLS was our last hope. So, I went to my first seminar in early January. and attended another on Jan 23...met with my surgeon on Jan 31....everything was in motion. February flew by as a blur....one appointment after another. All results were in, and the package went to insurance for approval. I had expected to wait a few weeks...well, my answer came back in 4 or 5 days.... APPROVED!
Surgery is scheduled for Monday, March 17th... Happy St. Patrick's Day to me...((I have requeqsted a green hosptial gown!)
I cannot wait tillI have the strength and stamina to walk all four hounds down Main Street!!!
