Hi Im 26 and a mother of 1 dd and I have been researching the surgery alot, benefits:risks, yada, yada..I went to one of Dr. Cases learning seminars and really enjoyed meeting other people just like me interested and exploring the possibility of having the surgery. I was introduced to Dr. Case by a co-worker whom is going to have surgery very soon. I feel that he is very knowledgeable and well mannered. I have my first appt set for 7/14/03 and am very excited. I have another friend who has just finished her last test and ready for insurance approval. We were going in this together but I got cold feet and put it off for a while. But after more research and MANY, MANY talks with family, friends and doctors, I am moving forward. One day I'll be able to come home and play with my daughter instead of having to lay on the couch with my feet elevated above my heart because my legs are so swollen and hurting because of edema, and hopefully not be so worn out I'm ready to go to the park instead of bed!

Let me just tell you, I went for my consult today with Dr. Case and was very dissapointed to find that I weighed in @ 305..HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? Oh well, Dr Case requires that you start a regimen of better eating before surgery to get you used to how you will have to eat after surgery..of course portions are not as small as after surgery but smaller than what I normally eat. I am excited now, finally, about getting this surgery. I was having a real battle with my brain and how I felt about surgery. I feel that it is my only option as I have done some many other things prior and of course it never helped long term. I am going to my first support meeting tomorrow and can't wait to meet those who are interested and those post op.. I'M SO EXCITED!! I have started calling doctors off my check list today and am planning on getting all the tests done A.S.A.P so that I can have the surgery. Gee's the appt scheduler at the hospital must of thought I was nuts, I'll be getting lab work @8:00, Adominal x-ray @9:30, chest x-ray @ 11:30 and a exercise consult @2:00..she said are you sure you want to do all of this in one day, I said yes..if I could do all the test in your facility I'd try to get them all done in one day..she laughed..probably thought I was nuts..He He

Well, yesterday I got the Abdominal Ultrasound, Chest X-Ray, Blood work, and exercise consult done. The 14, 21, and 28 is when I have the rest of the appts scheduled (I only have Thurs off), then I will be done with all of the pre-reqs for surgery.. unless I have sleep apnea, others I have spoken with indicated that if I do, its about a month process with the first evaluation and the second with C-pap machine. I am hoping to have surgery in Sept or Oct, that would be great. Also I have to go back to see exercise therapists a couple of more times as I have some other problems, but the consult is all thats required, so I am glad about that. Dave Tobey is an excellant guy!. Well I will update as I get my results back and go through other pre-reqs.
8/14/03
Woo Hoo, 3 more appts checked off the list tomorrow, follow up exercise consult, nutritionist, and PCP follow up, boy this is going faster and smoother, than I thought it would!
8/18/03
Well, ran into my first hiccup, I knew this was going too smooth, I may have some problems with my gallbladder, and one of my appts was rescheduled for a later date in Sept. because of an overbooking mistake. Oh well thats how it goes.

Second support meeting last night, these get togethers are great! Tonight I found out that my surgeon will not be doing surgeries in the hospital I've been getting pre-op testing at as they would not conform with him to get him the neccessities he needs to perform the surgeries past a certain weight limit. He is now doing them at a much better hospital, which I was going to ask If I could have it there anyhow, as I am fond of the Mease Hospitals! so it doesnt bother me. I have more appts to deal with tomorrow and thats just more checked of the list. I am so excited!
10/17/03
Okay! Finally I am all done with my pre-testing.. what a long journey that was. But, you know I am thankful. My surgeon is very, very, thorough and WILL NOT touch you unless every aspect of your health has been pre-evaluated, and that MAKES ME VERY COMFORTABLE!. My friend Heather just had her surgery 2 days ago on the 15th, and she is so far doing great. If you remember from previous posts we were supposed to do this together, but I chickenend out. Oh well I am not too far behind and watching her progress will be a big inspiration for me. I will update once I know anything more.

Well I got my date today.. its 11/24/03.. I am excited.. but of course nervous.. as now with an actual date.. Its reality not just a dream and its kickin in. I am in great hands.. My doctor is now giving his patients the option to have a removable filter put in that will capture any blood clots that may form and stop them from going where they usually do.. to do damage to you. That makes me feel really, really, really, safe!..
11/30/03
Well I am now 6 days post-op and feeling great.. My incision is leaking a little today, but thats normal. I feel good, no weight loss yet.. still really swollen. I have a feeling by the time I weigh in next week that I probably will still show no weight loss.. Thats okay and to be expected.. that just means the next week I will show a big drop!.. will update after weigh in. THANK YOU DR. CASE... YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY THE GREATEST!

Surgeon: Brad A. Case M.D, F.A.C.S.
So far so good, will update after first consult on 7/14/03..later 7/14/03 UPDATE: I am very impressed with the staff..I must admit..I have been so up and down emotionally deciding wether or not to have the surgery..I'm not scared of "THE WLS", I am scared of surgery itself..after meeting with Lisa today, I feel very confidant that this is what is best for me and that my fears and concerns are normal and Im not the only one who goes through this. I am so excited to get the ball rolling..I have been on the phone all afternoon setting up appointments. Pre/Post care is extremely empasized and Dr. Case has extra pre-op steps to go through to make sure you are thourghly ready to have surgery both physically and emotionally..To those in the TampaBay area looking into this surgery I highly recommend Dr. Case and staff.. :-)
Insurer Info:
United, Choice
First off I didnt have to deal with the insurance company.. my surgeons (Dr. Case) office prepared and submitted everything.. Thank goodness for them because with all the pre-tests I had to take I know there had to be alot of paper work involved!.. But from what I can say is my surgeon submitted my paperwork on 10/22/03 and 5 bus. days later on 10/29/03 I was approved.. now that is fast!
