One Year Lap Band Post Op

Jul 16, 2011

One week ago I celebrated a little anniversary by myself. (Didn't want to steal the thunder from my daughters birthday, since last year I blew it and had surgery. :)
I celebrated one year with my little buddy. My Lap Band. My constant companion.

I'm finding out things as I go.
I'm still struggling with the last 20 - 30 pounds (since February).
I get 100 grams of protein and drink 72 ounces of fluid, and average about 1000 calories a day.
I am at the gym 6 days a week..... half hour cardio, half hour strength training and then another half hour cardio.
At my last blood test, my TSH's were normal. I'll get another test on Monday when I see my surgeon.

I assumed that it would the weight would continue to come off, just like the first 70 pounds, about 1 - 2 pounds a week until I got down to my ideal weight. NOT!  I wouldn't change a thing, I just want these last 30 pounds off.

I got a part-time job in the afternoon to keep busy. I go to the gym in the morning.
I gained 2 pounds of lean mass, and 4 inches overall. I know it's muscle, but this isn't the way I want to be going.
I want to be losing inches, not gaining them, even if it is muscle.
I want to be losing weight, not gaining it, even if it is lean mass.
Is there a point, where your body says (without starvation of course)  "that's it.... I'm not losing anymore, you are stuck here"?

I see my surgeon on Monday, so I will see what he thinks.
Thanks all for your support, and Happy Anniversary to me :)

Quickly approaching 1 year post op.

May 21, 2011

I am quickly approaching 1 year post op, and I am not where I thought I would be.
My goal was to loose 100 pounds in a year with the help of my support group, my family, my trainer and of course, my little friend the Lap-Band.
I know everyone looses weight differently.  I am down 70 pounds, so I have only 30 to go, but these seem like the hardest. My band is at 8 cc, and I think my eating is going well.
I have been at a platteau since February, and can't seem to get over it.
I have started strength training at the gym along with a Boot Camp 6 week program, so I am hoping that this re-starts my weight loss.
I think I'm just about as far as my little friend Lap Band can take me, and the rest is up to me and a lot of hard work.
I really do hope to make my goal, but it may be more towards the end of the year than July.

The New Year

Jan 21, 2011

This is going to be my finest year yet. I can just feel it.
I browse through all the before and after pictures and I cannot wait to put mine up there.

In December I got my 3rd fill and I think this one was the magic fill.
I am at 5.5 cc and this just feels right. Even if doc wanted to put more in, I think I would be against it.
I can definately feel it when I eat and drink.
At my mid- December check up I was 228. I just weighed in at the gym at 213. That's 15 pounds this month.
I know some of you think that's too much, but I also have been kicking it at the gym and doing ZUMBA once or twice a week. I see my doc on Valentine's day and hope to hit the 208 mark by then.
I even cut out coffee. Some poeple believe coffee hinders weight loss. I'm almost inclined to agree.

I cannot wait until the weather gets nicer and I can resume tennis. My husband and I play each other. We really don't know what we are doing, but it is a cardio workout and we have fun.

My goal is the 100 pound lost mark by my one year anniversary of surgery, July 9th!

May God bless all of you on your journey, I know how hard it is.
Keep up the good work everyone!

Somewhere in the middle

Oct 02, 2010

Well, that about sums it up. I've lost 45 pounds, which puts me somewhere in the middle of my weight loss. I started out at 272, and Saturday (weigh in day) I weighed 227. I went from a size 24 to a size 18. Yeah me. Then how come it doesn't feel like such an accomplishment.

I watch what I eat, and I go to the gym almost every day. The weight came off really easily and quickly at first. Now it seems to have slowed to only 1 pound a week. Is this normal??  The other day I even seemed to gain a pound.

I had my fill in August and my adjustment in September. I am due for another adjustment in October, the 25th and I can't wait.  I know it is only a tool, but I'm also worried. It seems like the mornings are fine, but the afternoons I just get so hungry.

I am going to make an appointment with my trainer, Brandi, next week, and get my body measured. I'm sure that will brighten my spirits. I'm sure I have lost inches since my last measuring 6 weeks ago.

For now, I'll look at how far I have come, and try not to get too discouraged to be stuck in the middle.

70 days post op, first adjustment

Sep 16, 2010

Well, it's been 70 days since surgery.
I had my first fill in late August, and my first adjustment in mid September.
I've lost a total of 40 pounds, and joined the gym again.
I feel great, I have more energy - I don't snore anymore. I am getting a better night sleep and I am sort of enjoying shopping since it's for smaller sizes.  I used to hate shopping.
I am looking forward to that 50 pound mark... meaning I'm  half way to my goal..

I get my body evaluation in 3 weeks from the fitness center that I work out at.
I will get those results and post.
I think last time she said that I lost around 19 total inches. That, to me, is amazing!

That's all for now. God Bless.

First adjustment (fill)

Aug 23, 2010

Today I had my first fill.
What an experience. I was so ready for it. It could have required 100 needles, instead of two and I would have been okay with it. For the last two weeks I have stayed at 236, and I just could not get the scale to move.
This should definately help.

Yeah me!

12 days post op

Jul 21, 2010

Still healing. Still eating right, still walking.

My daughter seems to have the flu.
I sure pray I don't get it.
It would be hell to have the stomach flu not even two weeks post op.
Yikes.

Really looking forward to being able to swim again next week.

9 days post op

Jul 17, 2010

And things are getting back to normal.
Since the complications with my surgery left me behind recovery a few days... I feel like I'm playing catch-up.

My incisions are healing nicely, and I am able to take deep breaths again, which means this coough is going away. Thankfully.

Now I only wish I could swim again, but I have to wait until this weekend.

Oh that shower felt good

Jul 12, 2010

4 days post op.
doing better today.
I've tried cream of mushroom soup today  was good and satisfying.
Two weeks of liquids - need to find other things to eat. Two weeks on chicken broth and cream of mushroom soup is going to be tough. Oh and I've been having my protein shakes also - the cappucinno flavor is my favorite.
My husband bought me sugar free fudgcicles and they were awesome.
My incisions are healing nicely. I'm not using my ice pack as much as yesterday. Also, I have to incisions to the right side that have been itching..... does that mean they are healing/??
I've been walking three time today.  I went two houses the first two time and then walked down 4 houses after dinner.
tomorrow I might even walk a block and then back. But I won't push myself. It will be a while before I can walk a mile with my husband.
I'll post in a day or two.

3 days post-op

Jul 11, 2010

the surgery was okay. The surgeon nicked a blood vessel which made me bleed. He has to stop that. Made surgery that was supposed to take an hour took three hours. The kept me Friday night in ICU and Saturday moved me to another room. I couldn't breath without it hurting, so they thought I had pneumonia. Did all kinds of tests on that. Blood and gas got caught under my diaphragm, which is causing pain when I breathe.
I am at home. Can't wait to shower tomorrow.
