I slept pretty good the night before surgery and even hit the snooze button once. We had everything ready to go the night before so it was just a matter of showering and leaving. I had to be at the hospital no later then 6:00 AM. The hospital is about a 15-20 minute drive depending on traffic, at that hour we got there in plenty of time. I was admitted, got my little name bracelet, then we were taken up to the second floor to the SSU (Short Stay Unit), there they took all my vitals, gave me a gown and booties. A nurse gave me my first shot of Heprin (a blood thinner), right in my tummy, I didn't even feel it. Again I had to sign more papers. The nurse started my IV. I don't know where she got her training but she needs more. From there I was taken to the pre-op area in Sub-level 2.
Pre-op was very busy. I meet the anesthesiologist, he was very nice and answered all our questions. Dr. Selinkoff came in and talked to us, went over things and meet my mom for the first time. He introduced us to Jackie, his OR nurse, she was great, she checked everything out and talk to Mom and Jen as well. Jennifer was taking picture of all of it. Then the anesthesiologist came back and gave me a MARGARITA. Within seconds I could feel it working. I quickly hugged my mom and daughter and told them that I loved them. That's the last thing I remember til I came to in the recovery room.
I woke up in the recovery room and knew my surgery was over and that it was a success. I didn't have any pain, but I was so hot and my mouth was as dry as sand. Almost instanly there was a nurse at my side giving me water, wonderful cool wet water! I told her how hot I was and she took some covers off me. I drifted in and out of sleep, still hot and my mouth was a sand pit. A nurse came over and washed my face with a cool wet cloth and gave me some ice to chew. I love that women, I think I'll adopt her. LOL! I had to wait in the recovery room until almost 2:00 PM waiting for a private room. Once I had a room assigned they move me to the transpost area of the recovery room waiting for someone that could transport me to my room, and guess what? it was like being under the AC vent, it felt so great, I told them they could just leave me there.
The first thing I saw when I was wheeled off the elevator was Jennifer. What a beautiful sight. They wheeled me to my room and my Mom and my friend Marge were waiting. As the nurses went about doing their thing, Mom and Jen went about making me comfortable. Jen got me some icewater and extra pillows to put under my arms. We borrowed Barbara's fan and Jen got that set up. Soon I was feeling much better. I still had no pain, but then I had to get up to go the bathroom. OK, I admit it, that was very hard and I had PAIN, but nothing I couldn't handle.
