I guess I have been heavy since about junior high. Not obese, just a little heavy. I was 135 pounds when I graduated high school and I was about 5'3." By the time I married a few years later, I was around 145. Then came the babies. I would gain and not lose before the next. My youngest is now 12 and I have just steadily gained over the years in spite of diets and exercise. I'll admit that I never stayed with anything for more than 2-3 months, though. I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago and they told me that I was insulin resistant and I really needed to avoid carbs. I tried. Anyway, I just finally got to the place where I didn't like looking at pictures of myself and realizing that every year I just get bigger, and knowing that I am just teetering on the edge of developing diabetes and hypertension, not to mention arthritis and all the other stuff - at 265 pounds, I decided to look in to the surgery. We are military, stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, which means it's free. I went through the preliminary stuff and sat on the waiting list. I didn't think I'd get called until March or April and figured it would be too late since we are due to move to Germany in the Summer. Boy, was I surprised to get a call the first week of January. Could I come in the NEXT day for pre-op?? Well, I did and I am done and doing well. Already I have lost 20 pounds. I am looking forward to the new life ahead!
