I have been over weight but active most of my life. As I get older my weight has gone up and my mobility has gone down. Last year I adopted 2 child with my husband. We tried for 5 years to get pregnant, without any luck. I am have surgery on 1-27-2000 at the BTC in Addison, Mi. My Dr. is Dr. Poplawski. At 36 years old, I am hoping that this surgery will not only save my life, but will also give me the chance to have a child, and play with the 2 I already have.
I started the WLS process in August 1999. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance. I was required to have a psych. eval. done before BTC would submit my request for surgery. With that done it took 5 weeks to get approval. During that time I had a sleep study done. I found out I had sleep apnea. I now wear a Cpap at night. I hope after surgery and some weight loss I will not have to wear it. Although sleep apnea runs in the family.
I am looking forward to the surgery. I am not too worried at this point. I am having too many "last supper". I hope I don't gain any more weight before surgery.

Today I am 6 weeks & 2 days post op. I feel great. I had no problems with the surgery other than my incision got infected in 2 places. The Dr. opened them up and they healed nicely. I have been released to go swimming, which I try to do 3 times a week. My clothes are fitted better, and in no time they are going to have to be replaced. I am down over 40 pounds and boy does it make a difference. I am not feeling to much pain (maybe a twinge here and there).I started on regular food 2 days ago and that is going well. I found that I can eat most foods with out a problem. Pasta and noodles are no longer my favorite. They feel like glue in the throat. I am suppose to get in 71 grams of protein and 64 oz. of water per day. It is hard to do, but I am trying. With all that protein, there is no room for fruits and veggies. I have no regrets other than "Why did I wait so long".
5-10-2000 I am over 6 weeks post op and I am still doing great. My clothes are fitting better that ever. I have even had to retire some of dresses. It was funny at Easter trying to find something to wear. I was able to fit into everything in my closet. I still find it hard to go shopping and buy clothes that are too small. I know I am going to get small, but it is still hard to believe. Plus I don't want to buy to much, because it will only fit for a short time. I keep my measurment and the inches are just dropping off. I am down to 351 (-76) as of 2 weeks ago. I try don't to weigh in too much. I still have had no problems with food. I made a discovery, I can eat sugar. I have to keep all chocolate product out of my house!!!!! Also, once I hit the 3 month mark, I started to lose my hair. Luckly, I have tons to spare, but it is falling out by the hand full. I have stepped up my protein to see if that will help. I also take a hair, skin and nail Vit.
January 24, 2006:
I managed to gain most of my weight back. It was my own fault! I thought I was normal. I forgot...I never have been normal, nor will I ever be normal. I am planning a revision.
I went to MMPC, in Grand Rapids and listened to Dr. Kemmerter. I have an appointment next week. I hope that he approves me. I will still have to jump through a few hoops, but my insurance is better this time and it covers revisions.
Words of wisdom. Don't eat sugar, bread, and soda (even diet). Don't drink while you eat. Don't say, "just this once". Learn from my mistake, not yours!!!!! I will not make the same mistake twice!!!!!
