Brent Steward

" Slipped band replaced on 5/9/2005: Dr. Steward is a wonderful person and a great surgeon. He gave me every confidence that he was going to take care of my slipped band situation and get me out of the funk I was in. His follow up care is excellent, and he never 'talks down' from his position - he treats his patients as equals and listens to all concerns. His staff is stellar as well - his nurse Rachelle, in particular. She is always available via email or phone and responds quickly. I have been so happy & healthy in the months since Dr. Steward replaced my band.
Info about my first surgeon, Dr. Vincent Frering: July 2002: Through my research, I decided that Dr. Vincent Frering was one of the most skilled adjustable gastric band surgeons in the world, and that he was using the best band available. This was my opinion from the research I did. Dr. Frering had done over 3,000 AGB surgeries, and he helped design the Midband to prevent some of the complications that come up with other bands (e.g., Lap-Band, Swedish Band). I had a wonderful experience in Lyon and recovered from surgery very quickly (was walking around Lyon the very next day!). I felt so good about choosing Dr. Frering--his skills are undeniable and he is a very nice person as well.

Update April 2005: My Midband slipped. In hindsight, I think that the Midband hasn't been around for long enough to conclude that it is a "better" band than any other band. Also in hindsight, I think it is preferable to get banded with a band that is approved for use in the United States. Getting aftercare (e.g, fills) in the U.S. is more difficult with a non-FDA-approved band. Good follow-up care is of paramount importance with the band!!! I can't emphasize this enough!!!"

"I went to Dr. Baraban for a consult. I felt he was very thorough in describing the surgery, potential complications, and recovery."
