"I've met with Dr. Oakley once. I liked him immediately. He spent an hour talking to me about WLS and answering all of my questions. I've asked two acquaintances in the medical field about him and both gave him high marks for competency. He thoroughly described the various types of WLS, along with the risks involved. He said the risks can be substantial, as with any major surgery. He has studied his own statistics and compared them to other major practices in the US. He cares very much about his patients and strives to provide the best possible care. He limits himself to 4 or 5 WLS's a week even though the demand is greater.
We didn't talk a lot about aftercare yet, but I'm scheduled to talk to his coordinator in a few days.
I would rate him excellent overall so far.
Surgical competence is better, in my book. However, having a doctor who is non-judgmental and kind is a real bonus."
