Hello my name is Hollie Gina Marie Cruser. I am a 28 year old mommy to my little girl, Holeigh Madison, who just turned a year old on July 6th. I am a Domestic Engineer and work very hard at it.....in other words I am a stay at home mom thanks to my hubby's career allowing me to do so.

I guess I have always struggled in the weight category of my life. Through school up to now. Always up and down. Mostly up though. I wasn't always big, but it was a great struggle to keep the pounds off and I usually maintained it the unhealthy way with Metabolife, Xenadrine, Leptoprin, etc. and of course pair that up with skipped meals and there you go.

In October of 2001 I found out that I was pregnant. For 3 months I had some weight gain that took me over the 200 mark. Devastating to say the least, but I was going to have a baby so I was able to deal. Long story short, I lost the baby. But not the weight.

From there on out and up to now I have struggled to lose the weight. I've tried what's seems to be everything. Aside from the diet pills (I know.....bad Hollie), I also tried Weight Watchers, Body For Life, Walk Away The Pounds, Power 90, etc. And of course with the exercise routines, I was watching portions and all that good stuff with no success.  I was actually gaining weight instead of losing it. Go figure!

I started thinking about WLS in 2003. I didn't really discuss it with anyone at that time. It was just something that I was considering. Plus, I had just seen the amazing, life changing results it had made for a family friend. Absolutely amazing!

It wasn't until after I had married my hubby (June 06) and had my baby (July 07) that I was ready to really consider this as a possibility for me. I made an appointment for something completely different and was going to sneak it in, but I totally chickened out. Fear of rejection. After talking to a friend of mine about my struggles and feelings about the surgery, she was very encouraging about it all which put me at ease. Also seeing my friend Jaime go through the process encouraged me to muster of the confidence to make the appointment and ask my PCM about it. So at the end of July I had my appointment and explained to my doctor my struggles & efforts over the years and he was impressed with my efforts, applauded me for not just walking in wanting the surgery without trying to lose first. He was also impressed with what I knew about it. Needless to say the appointment went very well (much to my relief) and he went ahead and sent my referral for the 13 week long LEARN class that started on August 7th.

So here I am starting on STEP 1 of the long, life changing journey. Sure the surgery part is up to Tricare, but even if they tell me no (that's not going to happen....thinking positive here) I am sure the knowledge I take away from the LEARN class will be very beneficial.

As of right now, my main goal is getting through the class, following it to a T, and see what happens from there.

I hope this all works out. I don't want to dread summer's heat anymore. I want to enjoy being outside (all seasons...I sweat in all of them), playing with my daughter, taking hikes, swimming, and well yeah being able to dress appropriately for the season....shorts, tanks or shirts that don't look like a tent when draped over my DD boobies.
I won't miss sweating buckets from the smallest of tasks, being winded when turning over in bed, and I certainly won't miss the nasty back pain from my boobs & weight.

Sure the smaller, cuter clothes, and nicer body sounds great, but do you know what sounds even better than that?

Being alive to see my daughter's dance recitals, buying her a prom dress, watching her graduate high school with tears of joy. Helping her plan her wedding. Being there when my first grandchild is born.  Being alive for her!!!

Anyway, that's my story.....I know it was a long one.  Thanks for sticking it out and reading it anyway.

WISH ME LUCK!!!
