Feeling Much Better

Oct 06, 2007

I had my surgery on Thursday, went back to work on Tuesday.  I felt pretty bad the first part of the week, but had some sort of a cross between a burp and dry heaves on Wednesday night and since then I have felt like a new person.  I haven't had any incisional pain or problems at all--other than feeling bad the first part of the week.  I still don't know what the cause of that was, but I know I feel so much better now.   I have weighed myself more than I probably should..According to my scales I have lost approx. 24 pounds.  I can't believe that's right, so I will wait until I go back to my doctor next week.  I know a lot of the weight I lost is water b/c I can see my ankle bones and haven't for  a long time.  I drank a lot of diet soda and they contain a lot of sodium, so I am sure that's where a lot of my loss has come from.  I hope I continue to feel this good.

2 days post op

Sep 29, 2007

OK  I am 2 days post op and think I have done well.  I haven't had to take any pain meds since coming home.  I am only taking some Tylenol here and there.  Incision pain isn't bad at all, but all the other weird feelings will take some time to get used to.  I feel like I need to burp  and can't--guessing this is normal..??  I also am having some trouble with feeling weak..I must not have the drinking thing down yet.  But for the most part I think I've done great.

Surgery tomorrow

Sep 26, 2007

Tomorrow is my surgery day!!  I am excited and a little scared too.  I have had surgeries before so I know what to expect but there is always that little chance of a complication.  It is bittersweet I guess.  I am starting to have a little anxiety about what I have to drink.. I know what to do, but all of a sudden I am like...ohhh...I have to have how many grams of protein...how many this and that...how I am going to figure it all out...I know I will but it's just thinking about it all...I can't wait until my first 2 weeks are over.  It seems like it will be a little bit easier.

Ok--I just put a picture of myself on my profile. It is not a good picture at all, but none of mine are.  I don't have many pictures of myself because I am usually the one taking them.  (Good for me!! HA HA)  I found an old one of me looking at my kids this past winter..but it was the only one I had on the computer at the time so it will have to work.  I am scheduled for surgery in a little over a week---can't wait.

I can't wait.

As I sit here looking at all the information---my oldest daughter, who is 11 going on 18, is watching and is talking about exercise.  She ran a mile yesterday.  I can't wait to be able to do more things with my kids.  I am hoping that this is such a big change for all of us.  I don't think I will be able to run a mile anytime soon, but would like to be able to maybe briskly walk, or jog sometime in the future without having my feet and knees hurt so bad.

I HAVE A DATE !!!!

Sep 12, 2007

I scheduled my surgery today.  It is scheduled for 9-27-07.  I attended my first of two dietary classes yesterday.  It was really interesting.  I have another one next week.  I have pre-op testing on Monday the 24th and a pre-op appointment with my surgeon that day also.  Then Thursday is the BIG day.  I have to eat light the week before...so that means this is the last week and chance for me to eat all the favorite things....funny thing is I don't seem to have as much of an appetite for my "FAV" foods--maybe in anticipation????
I can't wait.

Surgery Approved By Insurance--First Attempt!!

Aug 31, 2007

I received a call from my surgeon's office on Thursday.  I have been approved for the Lap-Band procedure.  I have to attend 2 diet meetings prior to surgery.  I have to call Monday to make the surgery date.  It seems so  strange that it has been this simple so far.  I have read  horror stories about trying to get approval.  I am so ready for this.

It's been a long time

Jul 01, 2007

Well, over a year ago I went to Evansville for a meeting on gastric bypass surgery.  I left the meeting unsure if this was what I wanted to do.  I desperately wanted to lose weight and knew that it would take a life style change, but I wasn't sure if those changes were right for me... So, a year later, hundreds of hours of researching and reading books, magazines..etc... I decided to check into it again...only this time I went to a meeting on the Lap-Band...and I left there thinking.....AHA...this is for me..  I filled out all my paperwork...went to my doctor to see what his thoughts were and thankfully I had been already under his care for the last 6 months for weight loss so I have everything I need---so far.  I sent everything off and I have an appointment with my surgeon in just a few weeks...  I can't wait to see what happens next.  I know my insurance covers the procedure at 90%.  I also know that a woman my husband works with had the Lap-Band done and the insurance (the same one I have now) denied her the first time she applied, but she got it on the second try.  Hopefully I won't have the same problem...but from what I read on here it looks like it is common practice for the insurance to deny the first time... Oh well,--I guess I'll just have to wait and see...
Hope to hear from some people in the area, hopefully some who have had the Lap-Band...I have a few friends who have had the Gastric Bypass and have done well..most of them...hopefully I will too.
