I began my journey to WLS in April of 2007. I was tired of being over weight and I had been on every diet and diet program. I had went to talk to my doctor about perhaps getting on some weightloss medication. She told me wieghtloss medication is only a temporary fix and together we decided I would be a good candidate for WLS. She put in my referral and I thought great when can I do it. At that time I was 204 lbs and 5 foot 0 inches. Well the referral was kicked back because I wasn't qualifying over a few pounds I was at 39.4 bmi. I couldn't believe it. So needless to say two weeks later I went back and weighed in at 207 and that is how I made it into the program.
I started in bariactric program in April and after going through all the tests and requirements six months later I was ready for the surgery. I had flipped flopped back and forth all summer trying to talk my self in and out of it. But everytime I went to the support group meetings and heard other peoples stories it just made me want it more and more.
On September 19, 2007 I had My WLS laproscopic. I weighed 201.5 lbs that day. I was so neverous because I hate needles and I hate the thought of staying overnight in the hospital. The surgery went great I had no pain and the doctors and nurses were wonderful. I was home the next evening.
It has been two weeks today and I am down to 184.5lbs. I feel great and and back to my normal self again. Nobody can believe I had WLS two weeks ago. I must say the hardest part has been the liquid diet and meeting my protein and fluid requirements everyday.
My husband has deployed to Afganastan this week for the next 9 months. We both have something to look forward to while he is gone. Coming home to a new me.
