Hit One Year Mark April 1, 2010
Apr 12, 2010
It's been awhile since my last update. I am one year out and am down 146 lbs! Wow!
I did have 7 months of dilations with EGD to fix strictures and long term meds Nexium to heal ulcers. I tried going off Nexium and ulcer pains ect came back.
I'm having fatty tumor issues now compressing bowel and bladder we will see in the next few days what the surgeon will be doing. I would still do this surgery all over again.
I am so very greatful!
Blessings,
Donella

I'm so excited! I hit the 100 lb. Weight Loss Today~~
Jul 22, 2009
OK someone wake me up already! I hit the 100 lb weight loss today! I had my repeat EGD yesterday. It shows ulcer is healing over my pouch and still needs more time to completely heal. They could not dilate pouch as it's way too narrow to do safely so we are going to just let it alone continue to take ulcer meds for 6 more months and try and let my body heal on it's own. I am good with this as I would not want something done to correct a problem but could cause something serious to happen as a result. I am able to handle most bland solid foods sometimes still vomit if I ate something with spices in it or took that extra teaspoon of food. May I ask what is some of your diets and foods you are eating 12 weeks out from surgery?
I'm getting my energy back from being able to handle some protein each day so that's a blessing all in itself. I am able to walk the treadmill morning and eve and that makes me feel really good.

Slow Healing
Jul 12, 2009
Hi ~~ Well ulcer is still healing slowly but surely. Got on scale this morning down to 268! Remember I started at 360 just a few months ago. I am eating bland solid food 3 times a day without vomiting. It's usually a teaspoon or a max of 2 teaspoons a meal. I will vomit if I eat more than that. Surgeon is going to repeat the EGD next Tuesday July 21 to check on ulcer and if pouch is safe to dilate. Hope all goes well. Hope everyone is doing well.

I think ulcer is starting to heal
Jun 26, 2009
Well it's been awhile again since I posted. Just a little update. I am at 277 this morning; YEAH! In April I started at 360.
I am able to finally take a small bit of solid food with no vomiting so severe pain related to the ulcer that formed over my new pouch. Smoothies and Full Liquids has been my diet since April. I was starting to get very exhausted and discouraged but prayers have been keeping me uplifted.
In April I was in a 30/32 clothing as of today I am in 24 clothing and it's loose. This is a awesome feeling. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far. I have been taking my son to the pool quite frequently;however still too embarrassed to wear swimming suit so I sit in shade and read a book. There are several life guards at the pool to keep eye on kids.
Well until next time I will close. Be Blessed!

2 Months Post OP Gastric Bypass RNY
Jun 03, 2009
Hi ~~ I figured it's been 2 months since my last post and I better update everyone to let them know I'm still here. My husband retired from the United States Navy Seabees April 20, 2009. That was 3 weeks post op for me. In the beginiing from April 1, 2009 surgery date till like week 4 I was adjusting rather well to the diet and changes. Then we traveled and moved to North Carolina and I got very ill ending up in ER for Bronchitis and Dehydration. The ER gave me tetracycline knowing I was a fresh gastric bypass and that med started problems. I could not eat anything without vomiting ect. This continued for a few more weeks so ended up finding a local Bariatric Surgeon who would follow me while we live in North Carolina. He took me to OR to do a EGD. I have a huge ugly ulcer and strictures blocking my pouch from the antibiotic therapy. Tetracycline is already a rough antibiotic not to mention old I'm not suprised it tore up my stomache. He said my pouch will need to be dilated but he could not do it as there was so much inflammation; he even needed to use a pediatric scope to see the ulcer. He put me on Nexium 40 mg powder for 6 months to heal the ulcer and inflammation and in a few more weeks we will be going back to the OR to try and see how ulcer is healing and dilate my pouch so I can tolerate food. I'm on all liquids so using sugar free smoothies and adding a tasteless protein for my nutrition for now. Drinking lots of water too.
Lets see Pre-OP I weighed 360 lbs April 1, 2009. Today June 3, 2009 I weigh 280 lbs. The weight loss is awesome and amazing but the recovery is very difficult. I have people ask me would I do this again and YES is still my answer. I tried everything under the sun and surgery was my last option or tool.
Please pray the ulcer will heal as a last resort they may have to do a partial revision so I will not suffer malnutrition. I don't want this. Will write more later.

6 More Days Till RNY YEAH~~~~
Mar 26, 2009
I can't believe my surgery is going to really happen. I prayed hard for the surgeon I ended up with and God granted that to me after 2 years of faithful prayers and obedience to Him. My inspiration to others today is Psalm 66:16-20 (NIV) and Matt 6:33 (NIV). Please pray I can get over this horrific head cold and congestion before next wed! Thanks. Have A Blessed Day.

Surgery Date April 1, 2009
Mar 25, 2009
I am so very excited. I went for my pre-op today. Dr. Billy is so... wonderful. My husband and my son went with me and they both adored him and said we feel so much better about you going through with the surgery and we trust he is going to take great care of you. Bingo; I already had that feeling so nice they got that too. I know gastric bypass is going to be a tough road; however it's encouraging to know howI prayed if God Wills this for me then I will know this is the procedure to help me get healthy again.

Ready For My Journey To Better Health
Mar 23, 2009
I have my pre-op on Wed 3/25/2009. I am hoping to have surgery April 1, 2009. Nothing in writing yet. My husband is retiring from the Military and we are leaving for the East Coast from the West Coast April 21, 2009. I am hoping to have some time to recover from my RNY before we drive the long trip. I have been on my 2 week liquid diet starting on 3/20/2009 and today I weighed in on my Weight Watchers scale and I took off 8 lbs in three days. However; that is the story of my life lose, gain , lose gain triple ect. I am sick of suffering with my joints and decreased health and am ready for my life long lifestyle journey for the rest of my life.
