I am a 56 year old man who has had a weight problem most of my adult life. I have type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and also 3 years ago I found out that I also have stage 4 prostate cancer.  Dieting and exercise are not really in my vocabulary.  I have tried both numerous times with some success but end up back in the same spot.  My general doctor has been making suggestions about wls for the past 5-6 years.  Never really gave it a lot of thought.  My diabetes is at the point now that I am a short step away from possibly having to go on insulin, which I cannot do because I am a truck driver and have a class A drivers license.  So that has made me reconsider wls.
I have a surgery date of 7-15-10 for the RNY.  A little scared of the actual surgery and the recovery and recovery time.  The up side is that I am looking forward to losing the weight.  My cancer seems to be under control and have been told by my other doctors (4) that losing the weight will be good for me all the way around.  I am ready to get on with this and become a smaller, healthy , happier person.
