Hello Ruth - <b>Congratulations</b> on your upcoming surgery date!   You'll find the changes that follow, nothing short of a miracle. For 20 years I prayed and hoped for a "second chance" in life to be healthier and thinner - I never thought I would get that chance, but I did, and now <u>so will you</u>.  My humble advice?  Walk as much as possible after surgery.  As your body begins to heal make sure to get in your protein, even if it means plugging your nose and chugging back the protein drinks in baby [pouch] gulps.  Vitamins need to be chopped, minced or crushed... whatever it takes to get them in daily, no exceptions, YOU are worth it.   Also, let's not forget your new best(est) friend, water.  It is SO important to get your minimum 64 oz in daily. One final thing, remember to <b>CELEBRATE</b> all the special moments along the way, big or small.  Too many people only focus on the <i>number</i>, ie. pounds lost.  There are so many "moments" to look forward to and embrace - don't let any of them slip by.   Enjoy your new healthier life, you've earned it!!   <i>"The key to happiness is dreams, the key to success is making those dreams come true"</i>  Hugs and smiles -

RUTH~~ I will say a prayer for a speedy approval! So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable

Hello, wonderful AMOS people. I have been cleared for surgery! I call tomorrow and set the date, which will be in September because my support people had their vacations planned before I asked them to do this for me. I have been very stressed because the first time I went to my surgeon's office (4/28/03) I was told by the Medical Assitant (MA) that I had to lose 21 pounds to get my BMI down to 50 in order to have my surgery at the hospital where I want to have it. He operates on much, much larger patients but does it at the County/University Hospital where he has residents to help. This MA is my worst nightmare come true: another medical person with authority telling me to just. lose. weight. and to come. in. every. week. to. weigh. in. I lost 12 pounds the first week and 2 pounds the second week. Lucky for me, she went on an extended vacation and I got to deal with the very nice RN the next week when I had gained 3 pounds. I was freaking out about this dieting thing. I was getting depressed and discouraged and I started to cry. I knew I could lose the other 9 pounds but I didn't know that I could stay there until September. I mean, I'm having this surgery because I can't diet anymore! So, the nice RN who is skinny but GETS IT scheduled an appointment for me with the surgeon. We talked to him together and explained the situation. I promised him that I could be at the desired weight for my surgery but I could not take this pressure. He said "you're fine. Schedule her surgery for September. No more weigh-ins. Come back in August for your pre-op and if you've gained any weight, you lose your date until you've lost the weight." Yippee! This, I can do. I can be a responsible adult on my own and make sure that I am 9 pounds lower than I am today. I did tell the doctor that his MA was my worst nightmare and he was quite concerned. I eplained that she is rigid and stern and she does NOT get it. She's the only one in his office like that so she really sticks out among a staff of otherwise very, very kind and insightful people. Well, I've gone on and on...just wanted to share all this with you. Ruth
