3 weeks since surgery update
Aug 08, 2010
Well, the surgery is done and all went well. A few pain issues when trying to get up and down sometimes, but other than that I am feeling good. Having some problems getting in enough protein though. All of the protein drinks that I taste tested before surgery and liked, make me gag now. I am going to try to make my own... again. Have been eating eggs and natural peanut butter, plus I add beneprotein to my soups and my cottage cheese/salsa mix, so getting there... just not where I should be.
As of today I am down 32 lbs since I went to orientation on April 12th! I had a 3 lbs. weight loss between orientation and starting my optifast, and the rest has come off since then... so 5 weeks (2 weeks optifast and 3 weeks post surgery). I am very pleased with that. The biggest change is with my BMI. I started out at 41.5 and now it is down to 35.8... that is one heck of a change for 32 lbs.! I feel so much lighter. Only problem is that my shoes don't fit any more! My favourite brown suede type runners are so loose... I will have to wear thicker socks I guess, but it is too hot to do that now!
I go for my first checkup with the surgeon this coming Friday. They have put me one week later than I should be so that I can go with my friend Barb. We travel together.

It's a date!
Jul 15, 2010
Well, Monday, July 19th is the big day! My journey thus far has been quick and painless. No problems in my pre admitting testing and everything is a GO for Monday! Optifast has not been difficult... I actually enjoy it! I add a twp of baking cocoa powder to it each time and lots of ice - never before in my life can I drink 3 or 4 chocolate milk shakes a day and get away with it!! As of today, July 16th I am down 12 pounds from where I started on April 12th when I went for orientation. The most remarkable thing is that I have lost two inches on each one of my measurements!! Already I feel like a different person!! I met a friend and co-worker of mine at Wal Mart the other day and she thought I had already had the surgery ... so, a big change already.
I am not nervous about having surgery. I know that complications can happen... found that out when I had my gall bladder removed a few years ago... but I have a feeling that things are going to go very well and that my road to recovery is going to be fast and easy... just like my road to weight loss surgery. I believe that if you think positive thoughts, positive things will happen.
My husband Bob and I will make the trip (once again) down to Toronto on Sunday. Surgery is scheduled for 8 a.m., so I have to be there at 6 a.m. It will be an expensive week as we have a minimum of 5 nights booked at the hotel. Thank goodness the Super 8 on Spadina offers a medical discount - $77 plus taxes per night. That is do-able!! I have it booked up until Saturday night, but hoping that we can head home on Friday. He is taking one of his week's holidays to come to the City with me, and I know how much he hates hospitals... so, I appreciate the sacrifices that he makes for me.
Well, best get going and get this day started... Optifast day #12 here I come!!

Still a'waiting!

Almost missed posting in May! Can't believe how fast the month has flown by. Heading to Toronto this week for the first two appointments - one with the social worker and one with the nutritionist. I had an appointment scheduled at the same time for the bariatric nurse, but she isn't available that day, so it is postponed until Monday the 31st. That means two trips to Toronto in 5 days, but well worth the travel time. Unfortunately I seem to have missed out on the June Nutrition meeting, so it is going to be in July. I was really hoping to have my surgery this summer since I am an Educational Assistant and have the summers off from school. I still have summer riding camps here at the farm, but the routine is a little different. Oh well, my time will come.... I will wait patiently... well, not so patiently but I will wait!

Just a'waiting!!

Well, nothing much new here to report. I spend a couple of hours each day reading posts on the OH website. I visit the Ontario, Over 50 and the Home board. I feel like I am really getting a handle on what to expect when my time comes for surgery and following surgery. Not much longer now before I take my first trip down to Toronto Western Hospital. I still have to book my room, so better get on that this weekend! Heading south on Sunday the 11th of April for orientation appointment on the 12th. My friend gigglesAlot will be coming with me - she has an appointment on the same day! It will be nice to take this journey with my good friend!
Easter weekend has arrived. Grandkids, great nephews, nieces, sister, daughter, son and my Mom will all be here in the morning to colour eggs... it is a tradition! We are hosting the dinner on Sunday - 39 people will be here. Darn good thing everyone brings something to contribute to the meal..makes it much easier for me that way! Happy Easter everyone!!

Getting Started!
Feb 28, 2010
I love blogs! However, I don't have much to blog about just yet. I have my first "orientation" appointment at Toronto Western Hospital on Monday, April 12th. I am very excited about it and am really looking forward to getting this process underway! I have set a goal... I don't know if it is realistic or not since everyone is different... but my hope is that I can get through all of the appointments and am having my surgery mid-August! Time will tell if that will happen, but I will be optimistic (as I usually am) and will keep my fingers crossed! In the meantime I am going to plan for our March Break vacation in Cuba... the first time in over 25 years that we have gone somewhere warm and sunny... and try to contain my excitement and all of my cruising on the net for information about the WLS until after then!
