Weight's coming off more slowly now
Jun 21, 2009
It came off real quick at first and while on the liquid diet the first week out of surgery I lost 20 lbs. Then before the month was over I lost 5 more. In May I lost another 5. I finally measured myself recently and I've lost 5 inches. I'll admit I haven't been exercising much but I do try my best to eat right and am eating much smaller portions. This month I haven't had any weight loss but will check with the doctor soon in case I need a fill. I also haven't been good at following the rule about eating and drinking seperately all the time because it's been the toughest thing to get used to IMO. Any tips from you fellow "losers" out there?

Wow that was quick!

I didn't have any complications and don't even remember it happening. I remember dreaming though and being in the operating room one minute and the recovery room waking up from the dream. I couldn't drink anything until this evening. I'm in a bit of pain now of course but have a prescription for painkillers.

In need of tips...
Mar 18, 2009
So, I recently met with the dietitian to discuss the post surgery diet and now I'm worried about how tough it's going to be to follow the diet. IT's going to be 3 months before I can eat solid foods! I'd greatly appreciate tips how others have gotten through the early phases of their post surgery diet or just tips for this new lifestyle change I'm about to face. =)
On another note, I'm waiting to get a surgery date and I'll keep you posted. ;)

Almost there....

I found out all I need now is to talk to the dietitian about my post bariatric surgery diet. One of the office assistants at Dr. Reyes office is going to register me with the hospital so I should be announcing a date soon. Hope it's by the end of March!!!!

Got my medical clearance!!!
Feb 22, 2009
I got my medical clearance but found out I have a dilated CBD (Common Bile Duct) and it's dilated 1.3 cm so I may need to have my gallbladder removed but will know for sure when I see the surgeon. I found out from the pulmonologist that I have bronchitis and moderate sleep apnea. Before I wasn't sure how bad the sleep apnea was but now I fear living obese more than I fear my surgery because I stop breathing 17 times in one hour! He's seeing me on Wednesday and is going to give me my clearance. I'll find out more about my CPAP level needs and such too. On another issue, my blood sugar keeps getting higher so I think I should change psych meds to something that is safer. I know the surgery should help that issue but maybe it's also my medicine since that could be a side effect. Plus, I found out Abilify the medicine I take could cause tardive dyskenisia in rare cases which is a serious disease that has caused some to be wheelchair bound.

What I've done for my surgery up to now...
Feb 08, 2009
So far I've completed a three month diet with my PCP. I was cleared by my psychiatrist and am now in the process of getting medically cleared. My PCP took a blood test, did an EKG, and sent me to have an ultrasound for my gallbladder. My pulmonologist checked the capacity of my lungs with a breathing test and had me get a chest x ray. He's also doing a sleep study with me. I've been told that every individual has something different to do before the surgery so you may not have to do these exact same things in this order however I've also heard they typically have you do a sleep study. This blog is just to give an idea what may be expected of you. I'll be updating it as soon as I found out if I'm medically cleared and if I need to do anything else for the surgery.

Scared!!!
Dec 21, 2008
A great friend of mine asked me not to get gastric bypass surgery since two of her friends died because their organs stopped working! I think I'm going to go with lap band instead.
