I am hoping to get this surgery. Need info on how to start the process. I do not have a family doctor.

I have been married for 23 years. We have 4 children ages 19,17,12,12.

I have been over 300 lbs for over 17 years.
I really need this and hope everything works out with the insurance.


5/17/04 Called Cori. They took my info. told me I did not need PCP.


5/18/04 Cori called and told me BCBS would cover except for deductable and co pays.


5/21/04 Received my papers from Cori.


5/24/04 Mailed papers to Cori in the morning. When I got home from work there was mail from Cori, prescription for blood work. Going to the lab after work. I called my patient care coordinator. I had a few questions. She transfered me to DR.Altiers office to set up a appt. Can't get in until 7/9/04. I was hopping to get in before that but owell.


6/02/04 I called Thresa from cori to ask if she got my report about blood work. She had not. She asked me if I had a physc appt yet, told her I could not get in until 7/9. She told me that is to long to wait.
I called DR. Medick I'm in for 6/9/04.
Thresa called me back and said she got my blood work report and it is good. She also told me to get a note from him if I passed so she can get me a appt with Dr.


6/9/04 I had my physc eval to day with DR.Medick. I'am sure I passed it went well. After we were done with the DR. they called Thresa Lee my PCC. She came over to doc's office, it was nice to meet her. She told me I need to get my medical files from my PCP, I have not been to see him in a year. Thresa told us (husband was with me} DR.S is gone for a few days but she will get me a appt with him asap and I am looking at surgery probably the second week of july. She suggested I have a great meal for july 4th weekend.
Also went to seminar tonight. We were supprised at how many people were there. DR.Hendrick was the speaker. He was very confident and seemed very caring of his patients.


6/16/04 I had a appt at my new PCP. Blood pressure was very high 202/106. The nurse was sure the DR. would want me to go right to the hospital. I told the nurse I was waiting for WLS, she freaked and said I would never be able to get surgery with blood pressure that high. The Dr. came in and we talked about WLS. He said I would have to be set up at Hurley. I told him I was in at Cori. He had never heard of Cori. Doc wants me on blood pressure pills but first I have to go for lab work.


6/17/04 Went for lab work this morning.
I went and got my med file from old pcp. I guess I have only been there twice in the last 3yrs. Sent it to Thresa at Cori.


6/22/04 I went back to PCP today to get results from lab work. They were really good. The DR. seemed very surprised. Chlosterol is 204. Not to bad, Blood pressure was still high 190/102 I got prescriptions for blood pressure and cholesterol[sp].


6/26/04 I have been trying to get in touch with Thresa PCC from Cori. NO luck. I still don't know what the results from physc eval are. I am getting discouraged that this is taking so long. And with no med history I feel it is not looking very good. I have quite smoking since 6/9/04.
I have been busy this week. My son graduated this year and party is 6/26/04. MY FEET AND LEGS ARE KILLING ME.


6/29/04 Finally got in touch with Thresa. She told me she needed my med file. I told her I had sent it to her. After she searched awhile she found it and told me she had everything she needed and said my appt with DR.S is july 7. Finally I can hardly wait.


6/30/04 Not feeling to good. My legs and feet are puffy and hurt, having a sinus thing. Called to see PCP. Blood pressure is 206/123. Doc doubled my blood pressure meds and put me on a water pill.


7/1/04 Feeling alot better today. I have been peeing a river but that is ok, my feet almost look normal. Thresa called me today and told me she needed a letter from my PCP. She also told me DR.S is not avaible for my july 7 appt. After they get my Docs letter someone will call me to set up appt with DR.S. I called PCP office and told nurse I needed the doc to fax a letter to Cori today. We are headed upnorth for the weekend. Hopfully it will take my mind off this waiting, it is really starting to bug me.


7/7/04 I havent heard anything from Thresa. I called her today. She did not get a letter from my PCP. I gave her my doc phone number and she called his office. Thresa was told to call back next week. Geez this is taking forever. About 4:30 I got a call from PCP nurse. She wanted to know what this letter thing was all about. After I explained it and told her the letter is the only thing holding me up for appt with surgeon, she said she would have doc do letter ASAP.




7/08/04 I received a call from PCP nurse. The Doc wants me to come in on 7/13/04. He wants me to bring a list and dates of my weight loss history before he will write letter.




7/10/04 WOW My page is so awsome. I can't describe how wonderful Sherri Garrett is for creating this page for me. It is just what I wanted. Thank You so much Sherri, You are GREAT.




7/22/04 Finally. My PCP finally got my letter done. It only took 23 days. I have appt with DR.S 7/28/04. I dont want to get excited about it, don't want to jinx it.




7/28/04 Consult with Dr.S went well. I need to get a Greenfield filter. Which is ok with me. I will have to wait longer to get this surgery done. I was sappose to get a call today to get appt for filter. Needless to say no call. I am going to call Chuckie in the morning.



8/2/04 I called Chuckie last friday. I was told I would have to wait for the call. As of today still no call.
School will be starting 8/24. I was hoping this surgery would not interfere with my job.




8/4/04 I had to make some calls this morning. I have some dates. 8/9 I go for greenfield filter and 8/19 I have surgery.




8/9/04 I went for my Greenfield filter today. I was fairly easy.






9/11/04 My neck is sore and stiff from filter. But not terribly bad. Getting things ready for 8/19. I have alot to do over the weekend.


Future Update

06/20/05 Well it has been almost a year and I made it through wonderfully. The surgery went well. I had a little problem with the pain meds they made me itch. Recovery was a little depressing. I had the feelings that I had made a mistake, did the wrong thing by having this surgery.
My first Drs. appt a I had only lost 3 lbs. WOW is that it.
After 6 weeks I went back to work. I really felt crappy. After a few days I had severe pain and had to call my husband home from work to take me to emergency. I had a severe kidney infection and stones. After a week I felt wonderful. The infection was making me feel so bad, I thought It was from the surgery.
Now 10 monthes later I have lost 180lbs and feel Great.




8/8/05 What a great day. I made 1 yr checkup appt. 8/22/05 at 12:15. Will be checking into tt and herina repair. Some people have a 6 pack, I have a gallon jug. Oh well.




8/19/05 WOW It has already been 1 year. I am down 188lbs. The scale has not moved for a long time. I feel wonderful.

I had to change my appt. Now its 8/29 at 12:00.

I am interested in tummy tuck and hernia repair. I would like to have that taken care of next summer. I dont want to have to take off from work but I will if I have to.



05/03/06 Scheduled for hernia repair and TT May 9th.


6/12/06 TT didn't happen. I was there all hooked up to the IV and then found out my iron was to low 6.4. It should be between 15 and 18. Dr S. cancelled surgery. I don't know when it will happen. I am taking Bari-Tec along with my regular vitamins.


8/10/06 Iron is still to low 9.4. I will have to wait until next summer for Hernia repair and TT. Hernia is killing me. It hurts and burns. Back to the good ole binder.

 

   3/21/07  Hemoglobin is up to 12.4  But my iron is low.  I had iron infusions 2  weeks ago.  I have also had lots of B12 shots.  My Pcp has me on iron pills he said I will have to take them  forever.  Going back for labs 3/23.  

I am scheduled for Hernia Repair  and TT 6/22/07  with Dr. DiNick.  I am very excited to get this done.  The Hernia is not very comfortable.

                                                    
6/20/07    I am ready for surgery on 6/22.  I had a few problems with appts at Barix,  but  everyone there is very nice.
