Wishing to help all I can

Jan 08, 2010

Hello folks. I am here to offer any and all help to those people interested in reclaiming life through the tools offered by having Gastric Bypass surgery.  I am offering my help, support, motivation, etc... in an attempt to PAY FORWARD the remarkable life I am fortunate to now have. I am not perfect, but this process has been a success for me. No other way to say it.

I went to see my gastric surgeon after realizing how close I was to death, and not really caring. I was at my heaviest of 525 lbs. I decided to make one last attempt at losing weight on my own. Three weeks down and I had lost 30 pounds but was feeling horrible, depressed, and hungry. It all came to a head after finishing off a half gallon of ice cream and realizing I could not do it on my own. So I decided to take the first step and go to a free seminar on Gastric Bypass.

I went in with no preconceptions. I had only known 2 people that had the surgery, but had been all over the web looking at before and after pics. After the initial visit and seeing SO MANY people in my same predicament, I decided that if  I did this, I was going to go all out and use this to change my life. By nature, I am a skeptic. Most things that can't have your finger put on, don't exist in my mind. Show me or stop talking. I realy was not sure about this. I had failed at so much in my life, failed at losing weight and keeping it off SO MANY times. If I was going to do this, take the risk, spend the time, effort, money and put my faith in another persons hands, I was going to go ALL IN. I did.

Three weeks post-op today....Starting food.

Aug 20, 2007

This is my First official status post. Up until now, there has not bben much to report. Living on the phase one diet, walking three times a day, at least a mile and a half each time, and Im back to work, off light duty, and life is looking wonderful. Today is the three week post-op mark for me. Up to this point I have been living on two protein shakes a day, 2 servings of broth a day, 2 chewable vitamins a day, and lots of Crystal light and decaffeinated tea, and my daily dose of Zegerin. The nutritionist called me this morning and gave me clearance to start eating soft to semi-soft foods. I'm a little nervous, but will give tuna with fat free mayo a go in a little while.

Since the surgery, I have not been hungry at all. I have smelled barbecue and things and thought that those would taste great, but haven't had any cravings at all except for tabasco sauce. Last week I sprinkled a few drops in my vegetable broth and I tolerated it, tasted awesome.

Oh, as of this past Saturday, I have lost 33 pounds post-op. Im happy with that since I lost 40 pounds before the surgery, bringing my total weight loss to 73 pounds! Im Stoked.!
