It's time!  I am happily married since 2001, have a great paying job that allows me to work from home, live on the lake in GA, have a houseboat, pontoon boat, jet skis and two really cool Portuguese Water Dogs (no kids).  Everything is great, right?  NOT!  I am 52 and feel like I'm 70.  I have atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure, arthritis, sleep apnea, and huff and puff walking up the stairs.  I grunt to get out of the chair and my knee and ankle hurt when I walk.  I take 8 pills a day that are prescibed, I use a CPAP machine and want it all to go away.

I have been on every diet like everyone else.  My most recent diet endeavors were with Weight Watchers and Curves and just before that a hospital supervised VLCD program that was all protein supplements.  They all work but then I gain it back.  2 years ago I went to a seminar about the lap-band and RNY.  I had 3 friends that had gastric bypass and they each had their own problems with it.  I didn't like what I saw or the potential problems with it, so I didn't want to do that.  I liked the idea of the lapband because it didn't reroute my intestines.  I had gone through all the tests and was approved by my insurance, but I just couldn't get myself to set the date.  I decided to give myself another year or so on my own and I'm still the same weight...or I guess I should say back up to that weight.  I read all I could on line from people that had the lap-band and there were just too many that weren't satisfied and I didn't want to have to deal with the expensive fills.  Each of the surgeries help people, but each of us have to chose what we think is best for ourselves.

So time goes by and I start reading about the "Sleeve".  I am so excited about this type of surgery.  What a great tool.  I feel like there is hope at the end of the tunnel.  I actually eat pretty healthy, but just way too much.  Portion control is my biggest problem.  White starches are my down fall.  I can eat an entire pot of my own spaghetti.  So anyway, I contacted the office of the local surgeon I was going to go with in the beginning, but they said too much time had passed and I had to start all over with the process.  They are going to see if my insurance (BCBS Traditional PPO) will cover it.  They tell me it will, except they haven't said if it will cover "that" specific surgery.  They are checking into it.  If not, and if I have to pay out of pocket, I plan to pursue Dr. Joya in Mexico.

So here we go..... would love to hear success or not so successful stories from anyone that has the "sleeve".  [email protected]
