My son's reactions...
Dec 28, 2006
I've just been contacted that my preop papers have all been accepted. Now all I have are 2 preop classes then I get to meet the surgeon. I'm thrilled and scared, every feeling. My son however, is angry and terrified. He just went off on me yelling about me not caring about him, being very mean and scared that something will happen in my surgery to separate us permanently.
I tried to reassure him but he's over the top scared. I've just realized that changing your entire life isn't an easy thing for me or for my family...especially a 12 year old kid. If it were easy though, everyone would do it.
I know now even more than before that I have to keep pushing forward. This is the only way to get on with my life. He knows that, but is overwhelmed. Otherwise my life will be spent worrying about and waiting for a heart attack or a stroke or something weight related to kill me.
I just hope that I can find some words to comfort him.

I made my preop weight loss requirement with some to spare. I lost 18 instead of just 15. I've also decided that I really want my wls done lap. So, I've got 30 more pounds to lose before surgery. It's good to have another goal to work for. I've also mailed in my packet to Dartmouth Hitchcock. It's a 2 inch binder of my medical history, preop tests, phych evals, doctor recommendations, etc. It'll probably be about a month before I hear from them, but I'll be busy losing weight till then.
Hi All

I've been working towards surgery for the last 6 months and have been doing research on it for years. The program that I'm going through has you jump through all of the preop hoops and tests and lose 15 pounds before you see the surgeon. I'm 1 pound away from that. Then I send in my package and wait for them to contact me.
I'm hoping that I can have surgery before the new year...but it may be a little afterwards.
