My Journey...
Nov 19, 2008
I can't believe I am here. It seemed an eternity until my surgery date. So here I am, almost seven weeks post op. I have done very well. I lost about a pound a day for two weeks then a four week stall. I finally started losing again this week. I am not in the mood for journalling even thought I know I should.
FSA, supplements, vitamins and other thoughts...
Sep 11, 2008
My FSA has requested a letter of medical necessity from my Dr. to use my own money to pay for my protein supplements and vitamins. It has been a week and I haven't heard anything back from my Dr's admin assistant.
I do know that she is out of the office today so I suppose it will be next week before I hear anything.
I belong to a couple wls groups and I hear so many people medicating themselves and saying that their surgeons and nutritionists don't know what they are doing so they have taken their nutrition into their own hands.
I realize that we have to be our own advocate and learn about our bodies and what it needs. Everyone is different. But giving all this advice and overwhelming pre op's is way too much. What is right for you may be totally wrong for me. We must educate ourselves about our own personal needs and make an informed decision.
I am turning down the noise and focusing on my surgeon's advice. If I trust him enough to allow him to put me to sleep and cut into my body and move things around, I can trust him enough to allow him the chance to keep his promise to me concerning my post op care.
I started my pre op diet Sept. 1st. I was scheduled to start on the 15th but I was ready to start early and get into the habit of eating less and more healthy. I am having an issue with finding a protein I like. Max Protein seems to be the best for me but is difficult to find. Only GNC affiliate stores carry it. GNC Corp. stores do not. MY local affiliate store is very helpful and I appreciate that so much. I have heard so many bad things about GNC but I have only found that to be true of Corporate stores.
Hometown affiliate GNC stores are much more personal. The owner takes the time to give me samples and if I decide I don't like what I buy, he takes it back with no problem at all. I recently tried every flavor of Lean Dessert because everyone raved about it. OMG it was nasty to me. I took every container back and got a refund to try another brand. LOL
My pre op appointment is Sept. 26th. I am so excited and ready to get on with the show! I also have my son's 9th birthday party to plan the weekend before my surgery on Oct. 6th. I don't know what I would do without my husband's love and support. He is enduring my mood swings and my " I need carbs!!" moments. LOL!
It's time for a protein shake and then the treadmill.......YAY

Michele called this morning and told me she was submitting my case for insurance approval.
We set a tentative date for Oct. 6th.
She called back a couple hours later to let me know that
because I have BCBS of NC and the hospital is considered
a Center Of Excellence, no pre-approval is necessary!
I am so happy today!

I think I have completed all of the process and I am ready to submit to the insurance company.
I called Elizabeth today and left a message asking if there was anything
else I needed to do. I hope I hear from her today.
I know everything has gone quickly for me when I look at the calendar
but to me it seems like an eternity. lol

I have met with Dr. Smith, the psychologist and Amber, the dietitian.
Friday is my first visit with Dr. Fernandez.
I am very excited. The appointments have happened sooner than
I expected but I am so glad of that.
Everyone has been so nice!
