"Pre-op staff was wonderful. Nice clean environment with lots of people that care. Very sensitive to surgical procedures, not just those for MO. To be honest, I do not remember much about the post-op/recovery... I guess I can say that pain control was WELL DONE! I have nothing negative to say about it. Med/surg floor... now here is where it all changed... My first day I had a couple of filipeno nurses that could not have been more rude or unresponsive to my needs. They "forgot" to give me my pain pump (it sat on the pump stand just out of reach) and when I asked for it, they were very nasty about it telling me I was "getting pain medicine." They were watching some tennis match on TV, which was obviously more important than me. When I began vomitting, they propped a kidney basin next to my head AND LEFT ME ALONE. I woke up later more coherent and found that the basin was still there and had spilled all over my pillow and sheets. The pulse ox blipped incessantly, and needlessly. Seems to me the filipeno nurses didn't know how to handle the machines, because when the night shift came on it was a whole different story. It wasn't until the night shift came in that the real care started. I had an american male nurse and I think a female CNA (I saw the male nurse more). They were great! Pain control went up considerably, they got me cleaned up and untangled. I was finally comfortably positioned in bed. They cleaned me up a little bit and about 5 am when I asked to get out of bed for a little bit. They happily helped. I was up for about 20 minutes before I was tired again.
The next day I had another american nurse team, a male RN and a female CNA. They were WONDERFUL! I got a shower, they stripped the puke soaked bed. They were wonderful! Pain control was great. Next night, same male night nurse as before... again great. Very responsive to my roommate who was also GB post-op. Day 3 was also a good american nurse team. Got me out of there quickly and walked me to Bartlett House. :-)
Hospital in general... same day surgery is nice and sparkly clean. But med surg is a different story. It is old and worn out. The waiting room chairs are largely stained and grimy. The patient room that I was in had one phone line and one TV, for two patients. Small bathroom, and the shower was down the hall. BUT, they do offer a lot that other hospitals don't. There was an older computer for the internet to send e-mail in the solarium. The solarium itself was stocked with all sorts of stuff to entertain people while they wait... Nintendo 64, two TV's (one hooked up to a DVD player), books, magazines and a great view. Also, they have Bartlett House, which is a wonderful "hotel" for pre/post op patients that have been discharged from the hospital but still can't leave town yet. Mixed review, yes... but I felt it was needed to thoroughly explain my findings and experience. OH... and Dr. Miller was GREAT!"
