They stopped my surgery

Feb 09, 2010

So I went for my surgery and I have to tell you the minute I walked into the hospital I was not at all impressed with the way it smelled. Did not like the old looking way in which it looked and well was thinking am I doing the right thing here. The day only grew worse.
They signed me in at 6a.m. and I have to say that the staff were A plus not one that was rude or ugly to me. But I just felt that I did not want to be at that hospital. Then the nurse told me I would be in ICU for 3-4 days. I knew nothing about that at all. So that meant that I would be in this room with others and I am not good when it comes to just having a curtain seperate me from others. When I ask her when they would move me to the floor she said they would not I would be in the ICU the whole time. I hated to hear that and I wanted to leave. However I did not and they took me back to prep me for the surgery. They started my IV first stick she did not get because she would not put it in the hand I told her too. But none the less she was ok about missing it and we moved on. Then she opened the IV wide open and I had taken a water pill so I was up going every 10 min to the bathroom. She also forget to finish putting on my socks. They came in drew my blood and I waited three hours for them. Finally they came back and did more blood and then took me to surgery, parking me in the hall outside of the Operating Room. About 10 mintues later my blood test came back again bad and they told me NO SURGERY and sent me home to see a blood dr.

Saw the blood dr the next day he found a growth on my thyroid and drew blood. today is Tue got the results back today the blood is good, and waiting on the ultra sound. Looks like my new date will be March 5th if all goes well.

Feb 01, 2010

Had my scope on Friday January 29th and all went well. Next day on Saturday I was pretty constipated and well lets just say that since I could not take anything after the procedure that I just pushed and pushed. (sorry to post it but its truth) so the next day I noticed that my stomach was sore like I had been doing set ups. Did not think anything about it until Sunday evening when my stomach began to cramp and it has cramped all day today Monday. I am now concerned that perhaps I could have done something to further cause my old VBG to cause this problem.

The dr office called today to tell me they want to move my surgery to Wed I told her about the cramps she thinks it is a bug. so we shall see.

Looks like it might just happen!

Jan 30, 2010

My last post was August 27, 2008  and at that time it looked like things were about to change and that I might have a chance of getting the surgery I have been wanting now for a good 5 years. I have to say that from the time I posted in aug 2008 it has been a long journey. I found a surgeon Dr. Nowzaradan and started the paper work back in March of 2009. It has been almost a year now since I first saw him. But it looks like things are about to change for me if all goes as planned. I will not even go through all the paper work and junk  or hoops that you have to jump through to get paper work to be submitted but it was not a very pleasant time and I feel like maybe it has taken a bit longer than it should have. My files got lost or misplaced and well once the dr office got things in order for my paper work and Melissa finally got things going or got to the bottom of why it took so long the insurance office ok the surgery fast.

On Thursday January 28,2010 I went to Houston to see Dr. Nowzaradan at 6:00p.m. when he saw me he had no clue about why I had not seen him in so long. I told him that it took long because I had to do lots of extra stuff for them to submit my paper work. Long story short he scheduled me for a scope to be done the next morning at 8A.M.  Had a great experience with the hospital staff at 1st Street Hosp in Bellaire. They treated me so kind, however I was not told when they approved me for my surgery that I would be having surgery in two weeks that Dr. Now has his patients go on clear liquids so he thought I had been on liquids as ordered by the his staff and I was not so when he did the scope there was food in my stomach from the night before. He was not a happy camper, not sure if upset with me or with his staff. But I did not know and was not told. So now I have been put on clear liquids to follow until my surgery.

So as of today Saturday January 30th I am on the schedule for my surgery next Friday but because thing have taken so long I will not believe it until it happens. I was also give the one test for bacteria in the stomach so there is always the possibility that could be possitive to push it back a couple of weeks but we shall see it is closer than before.

As of today I weigh 335.5 down from 378 but up also  from 321 before the holidays so I am gainning again.  Time to get this done once and for all.

Second Chance Around

Aug 27, 2008

So I got word yesterday that this time the insurance will cover my surgery if I follow all the conditions. Conditions like the 6 month doctor supervised diet plan. I start that today.
Last time I jumped through all the hoops but this one. It was not required by the last insurance company but everything else was and I did everything they told me to do only to find out about 9 months into all the testing that my dh employer placed a clause in the policy that nobody could seem to find until I had done all the stuff they asked. Then out of the blue like a month before my surgery they find that "OH there is a clause on the insurance sorry we missed that seems we just over looked it. That both from the doctors office and UHC.

Now I do believe all things happen for a reason so I just choked it up to mean it was not meant to be although inside I so wanted the help to do this. But I said ok God I guess you have other plans and I will trust you with this. So I dropped it and did not even follow through with fighting the company to revise the clause.(I was told I could seek to do that) but just let it go and put it in the hand of God. It has now been a year and my dh has now changed jobs and his new insurance does cover. Even got a call from the obesity division of UHC and the nurse there had called and check with the employer as did I. I did not wait on anyone this time. I went to the top right to corporate and got it from the horses mouth. They did put a clause in the policy but it was to make sure it was covered for those who truely needed it. The lady even refered me to the 800 number of the obesity help line at UHC so I knew she knew her stuff. Then the nurse from UHC called and said she too had called the employer and all looked good. The only thing is I would have to do the 6 month diet plan. Plus get the heart and lung clearance since my BMI is so high. I know there will be other things as well they require like all the test I already had but since they are not current and over a year old they can not use them.  Anyway I will begin to look for a new surgeon as the one I picked before Adam Naaman retired. So the hunt is now on.
