My story is very similar to many. I am obese. I have been since I am 18 years old. Right now, I have once again attained control of my compulsion; my food addiction. Right now, I weigh about 150 to 153 - fluctuating a few pounds on and off and trying very hard to get to 145; 140 optimally. I am status post LAP Roux en Y GB surgery. Dr. Alan Brader, when he was at Barix in Langhorne was my AWESOME surgeon. I can't even begin to thank him for providing the tool that I needed to once again get back in control.
I weighed almost 300 pounds. I am 43 years old and during the past 25 years I have yo-yo'd to the point that I do not feel that I can do that ever again. I lost almost half of myself and I struggle every day to ensure that I will not ever lose the control again. My personal relationships have all changed and life is, as always, stressful - but with many benefits to it. Taking time to smell the roses and enjoy life is something I am devoting myself to.
I have what we Barix patients call the Barix bible. I lived by that book for the entire first year. I followed each stage religiously. IF i fall asleep early on the couch or something, i make sure that I get up and go get my second Fred Flinstone vitamin. I do NOT miss it. I know that I am probably now compulsive with the way I have to make sure to count my proteins; my sugars and make sure that I am staying on track.
The day my new life began was February 6, 2006. I have read the OH website and have gotten a lot of insight from the many people on here. It's now two and a half years and I find myself really needing the support part of all of this. I was very lucky to have stumbled upon the PA Pilgrimage that was held in Lancaster this past weekend - May 31st. I met some wonderful people. I got to hear my surgeon and his team now heading up the bariatric program at Lancaster General speak and answer many questions. It was great.
I feel at this point in time, two and a half years post op, I am thankful that this site exists and I encourage anyone else who is bothring to read my story to post questions, the stay encouraged, and to become part of this great community.
Thanks for taking the time to read my short story.
