Three weeks post surgery
May 11, 2010
I am now back to work, and oh getting that water in is so hard - I just forget! I think I need to add some fresh lemon and stevia to it to make it taste good so I don't forget about it!
Other than that all is well. I have this attitude that I DO NOT deviate from what I am supposed to do. I eat my tiny amounts of food, enjoy being 30 pounds down, and try to exercise every day. Work definitely adds a burden, but life is life and I have to cope.

One week post surgery

I am so very happy to have done this!
Surgery went really well, I don't remember any of it. I thought I would be upset about the catheter, but you don't even notice it, and it is handy to not have to get up to use the bathroom Waking up from surgery was a bit strange, but my throat never really hurt from the tube at all. The nurse attending me gave me ice chips, very nice, and then they wheeled my down to my room. I had a beautiful private room on the corner with two bit windows, and it was room 311 - same as my birthday! The staff was so wonderful. My worst pain was from the gas in my shoulders, but once I was moving about that dissipated. I had bowel movements on day two, very gross, bloody. Had my xray showing that everything was working fine.
Only my husband Chris and sister Susan visited in the hospital. I most listened to classical music and read - husband brought me the NY Times from Sunday, and sister brought me Vogue, a magazine I haven't been interested in for years now!
Came home Wednesday, have had a steady stream of friends wishing me well. It is so nice to have this quiet time at home to get used to my new food routine and rest when I feel the need - which is more often than I would have thought. I kept thinking - really, two to three weeks off? but now I see why.
I have set my bed up so that I am kind of propped up in bed, and then have put pillows under my legs so I sleep on my back, something I have never been able to do. But I find it to be a comfortable position.
The painkillers are working great, I can get through about 7 hours through the night without taking them, and am starting to extend through the day as well.
So all is very, very well so far!

Almost here

Surgery is scheduled for Monday morning. I am nervous, obviously don't like pain, but I am so weary of being the fattest person I know, limited by what I am able to do because this weight is such a burden.
I have stuck to my strict diet for the past few weeks and have shed 15 pounds. I wish I could trust myself to keep doing this without the surgery, but everytime I have lost the weight it finds its way back to me. At 55 years of age I am finally ready to say that my love affair with food has ended!
