First steps are the toughest

Jul 19, 2008

Just a few introductory "factoids";

My current weight isn't too too severe compared to the challenges I see faced by others in this forum.

With a BMI of 37 and a gazillion co-morbidities I'm faced with a serious consideration of the rest of my life.

Do I want to live it or merely tolerate it?

After an active childhood of average weight, a svelte young adulthood, and return to almost normal weight after 3 pregnancies -
my weight soared upward by over 80 pounds in one year after my Graves Disease was treated.

Along with the added weight came Diabetes II, knee damage, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, increasing clumsiness because of peripheral neuropathy and much much more.

The final straw came when I discovered a fast growing cataract in my left eye.

After continuing research (I'm an obsessive Googler) and consideration of my physical and mental health I've decided to pursue the Lap Band procedure.

Upon the recommendations of several medical professionals I've chosen Dr. Bono and his staff in Hazelton.

I have verbal OKs from my HMO, endocrinologist, psychiatrist, weight management counselor and my immediate family (husband and three grown children).

After the July 28 Introductory Seminar I'll return with some impressions and comments.
