Oct. 4, 2005 Had my psychological evaluation today. The psychologist actually recommended me for the surgery! lol It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. He asked me lots of strange questions like "Do you hear voices?" and "Do you see visions?"... I said "Hold on a sec... let me consult them." (jokingly, of course) He laughed. I hope everyone is well. I'll write back again, soon. Take care. Vonnie :o)

I wanted to say Welcome Elizabeth!! That is my nieces name and I love it. Anyways, I am glad you have joined us here at OH. You will enjoy being a part of our family and anything that you have a question about, you will get so many responses with answers hopefully. Some may tell you to redirect the question to your doc, but at least they are being honest and letting you know they are experienced in this field, but they havent got their PHDs yet here LOL I hope you continue to post and I look forward to seeing you around. I wish you well on your journey to weight loss and having htis surgery. It will be one heck of an experience but it will all be well worth it, and having a New Birthday to boot. You cant beat it. Good Luck & Take care! Keep us posted please. Bright Blessings!! Jean

My name is Vonnie. I just put in my "technical" name when I signed up. Well, I have read a lot of postings & some are so elequent, but that's not me... I'm gonna tell it like I see it. I'm fat and I hate it! So many "big, plump, heavy, obese, fat" people, (whatever you want to call it), say "I've always been heavy. I don't know what it's like to be thin." Well, I have been thin, and this weight is killing me emotionally. I'm still the "social butterfly" I've always been. I haven't let it stop me. I say, "If people don't like it, they can look the other way!" But then, I go home and cry about it. I am 5'1" and I weigh 255 lbs. I know that's a lot smaller than a lot of people when they have this surgery, but you know what?? I would rather die than be 400 lbs. Seriously. That's just me. It's time to do something about my weight before it gets any worse! Diets are obviously not the way, and I can't exercise due to Degenerative Disk Disease. The American Heart Assoc. (or wherever that weight scale comes from) says my ideal weight is 110. Yeah, right. I don't expect that. I was skinny at 125 lbs. in high school. My expectations aren't unrealistic. I just don't want to go to buy clothing and have to search for 2x and 3x anymore. Well, Dr. Huffman isn't really my Dr. Dr. David Price will be. He works with Dr. Huffman, but is very new to this area (and his name wasn't on the list to choose from). He is from Virginia. He does the surgery laproscopiclly, but only on people with a BMI under 45. Mine is 47. I had my first appointment with him on Thurs. Aug. 25, 2005. I liked him a lot. I stressed over hearing how Dr. Huffman was so strict and to the letter. Dr. Price seems like he's laid back & so friendly. He just wants to know that I'm serious about weight loss and that I know all of the risks. I was SO excited about my appointment! Thanks to my cousin Laura who works with Dr. Price, I was completely prepared. I had only made the appointment like 2 weeks prior, but I worked my butt off to have all the info. with me that they required. I had my 5 years of medical records from all of my physicians (Primary care, ob-gyn, arthritis Dr, and my spine surgeon). Already had blood tests by my pcp. including a thyroid panel. Letter of recommendation from my pcp AND my back surgeon, and talked with the insurance company and found that I meet all the requirements for them to cover it!!! Yea! I'm on my way!! This is Sunday, Aug. 28. Tomorrow, I'm having spinal fusion surgery by Dr. Hoski from Spine Carolina. I like him a lot and totally trust him, BUT still worried. Please pray for me that everything will go well. I'll be in the hosp. for about a week and out of work for 3 months. As soon as I'm healed from this back surgery, I'm going ahead with gastric bypass and stomach stapling! Hoping that this will help my back as well as my sides and front. lol Well, I'll go now. I'll write again, as soon as I'm able after my back surgery. Everyone, take care & know that I have you in my thoughts and prayers, too. Love you all. Vonnie :o)
