Not only are the stats improving but I have to say that I feel absolutely wonderful even if I do still have 113 lbs to lose. I took it easy after surgery through November & December but starting New Years Eve we were back to Square Dancing.... something we hadn't done for a whole year because of my health. When we stopped dancing 12/31/11 my stamina was so bad that I was 'lucky' to be able to dance ONE dance a night. Now? LOL I not only dance every Square Dance (patter call as well as singing call - usually 4-5 per night) but also every line dance that's played and we are starting Round Dance lessons. So now we barely even sit down the whole evening. We've attended approximately 12 dance nights since 12/31/12.
We haven't been able to go to the gym as often as I'd like but thankfully I do some (made up) Zumba dance & use the home gym here at the house. Actually my husband teases me now because I just "can't sit still" any longer; I am always on the go
Just seen my family doctor earlier this week for a follow-up & to get test results... my C02 is .5 low (he said it's nothing to worry about right now) and my B12 is at 2000 (more than double what it should be) so he said to start cutting the pill in half. Ok, I've spent enough time sitting at the PC so time to get busy again. ![]()

Just wanted to update my stats so far. I've been keeping real busy doing things I haven't done in a great many years; running for short distances, run/stepping through tires, much longer walks. For over a month now my husband doesn't have to find a close parking spot to a store or even drop me off at the door... I now just walk (fast paced) from about 1/2 way out in the parking lot. Although I probably looked silly or even stupid to some people the other day, I ran (pushing a shopping cart with 2 lg bags of dog food, lg bag of cat food plus other items) from the store to the van, run the cart back to the store then ran back to the van. Something I would have never been able to do previous to my surgery.

3 week post-op follow-up
Nov 26, 2012
So, yesterday I had my 3 week post-op doctors appointment.
I've lost 30 lbs since my last appointment which was 10/29/12 (1 week pre-op). They said I was doing great but also said, "we have a whole 18 months to lose the weight, no sense in rushing it.". They increased what I could eat as well as amount. I am now supposed to try eating approximately 1/4 cup for all 3 meals.
Over the last couple weeks I have actually tried many foods including grilled chicken breast & steak. Each time I only ate very small amounts chewed up quite well - almost pureed actually. I'd heard during classes that many people can not eat chicken breast for quite some time because it is very dry. I haven't had that problem when cooking it on the George Foreman grill; which keeps the meat very moist. We were also warned about attempting scrambled eggs. I didn't have a problem with those either. I don't actually whip them though so I think that makes the difference. I know, I shouldn't have even tried it, but I did & I did find out that sweet tea does not do well so no more of that; only with Stevia from now on.
Changes in tastes...
I found out what they were talking about when saying our tastes change sometimes. Before surgery one of the ways I used to like to marinate chicken breast was with a package of french onion soup (not actually mixed, just poured in with the meat). Now? Nope, at least not now. Perhaps I'll try it again later on.
Last week my husband had some salt & vinegar chips. I have never been a chip eater & especially not that type. But for some reason I 'just had to taste'. I didn't eat the chips, but I did put a couple lightly on my tongue to taste. Yum. Will I start eating them? Nope, but I can taste them if I decide to next time he has any.
I have never been a one to eat much bread either. For instance even when we have family cook outs with burgers & hot dogs (all beef) I would usually just have the meat with no buns or bread. Why then does grilled cheese sound good? LOL No I won't even try that one either just think it weird to desire something I very rarely ate pre-op.

I've been focusing on the changes I've made in my lifestyle the last few days so haven't posted much. I know, many people have said in the forums & in real life to not check my weight shortly after released from the hospital because of all the fluids, etc that's used most people show a 'gain'. Well, I checked when I got home & yes I'd 'gained'. I'd weighed 324 the morning of surgery & came home weighing 331. Knowing this happens to many I wasn't alarmed; it just seemed like a big jump to get back to 324 so I could start counting weight loss. Although shouldn't weigh daily I did that as well just to make sure that extra weight was coming off in a timely manner since I sure didn't need any extra just hanging around. Since I was released on Wednesday I have slowly lost that extra & woke up this morning weighing 320.4 ![]()
Besides losing that weight I've also made progress with...
1. I think I've just about won this "challenge with the bed" I've been fighting since released. Getting into & out of bed is so much easlier now.
2. I went to town yesterday. I know, that doesn't sound like much to some but for those of us who life out in the middle of nowhere with only bad roads with lots of bumps it's a small challenge. I always knew the roads were bumpy but that's to be expected when you live 20 minutes from town in the country. It definitely wasn't as bad as the ride home Wednesday but was something I had to do. Our 21yo 'baby' was moving back to town & being Mom I felt like I had to be there to see their new place while they & my husband moved a few small things in.
