10/12 - I went to my first info session on 9/20 at UIC and signed up to get surgery. They said that I would get a call in 4-6 weeks to schedule my first appointment for my consultation with the surgeon. This is the third week. I called my insurance (Sucky Cigna) on 9/21 to see what my requirements are to get approved and they said I need. They said I need 3-5 years of medical records showing my height, weight and BMI so I can show medical necessity. So I'm now in the process of gathering my records for the last 3-5 years. I'm also compiling a list of all my doctors in the last 3-5 years and their phone numbers. I'm also planning on getting a letter from my PCP to state that the surgery is medically necessary. I've also compiled a list of my diet/exercies history and my family history of disease and obesity. I made the for sure decision to do the surgery on 10/10 with my mom and aunt (who had the RNY done 4 years ago and LOVES it).
10/21/2004 - Dr. Horgan's office called and scheduled me for my consultation on Nov 15. YAY!!
2/7/2006 - Guess i haven't updated in a while. Finally got my surgery date here in Las Vegas. 3/13/2006. Yeah baby! After being denied once by Cinga, then my insurance changed to BCBS.
2/13/2006 - SWCC called and told me that BCBS denied my request for lapband, but would approve the Bypass. I'm not too happy about it, but if thats what I have to get, thats what I have to get, as long as the insurance approves. I guess its probably a blessing in disguise, I know everything happens for a reason. Hopefully i'll be happer with this. I am allready happy because I wont' have to get injected for the fills. But will I have to get injected with B12 instead?
2/23/2006 - Met with Dr. Wong, an endocrinologist yesterday. I had gotten some abnormal labs back from my obgyn and she suggested I go see an endocrinologist. So I went and he didnt' like the labs either. He put me on synthroid for my thyroid and wants me to get my thyroid checked in 5 weeks. He also wants me to get an MRI and a 24 hr. urinalisys. He also told me that I should have my surgery postponed. You'd think he told me I was going to die. I've been so upset and depressed. My worst fear is that its going to get postponed until after my insurance expires in may and then i'd have to wait a whole year on my new insurance in order to get it. OMG i don't think i could live. I also had an ultrasound done on my pelvis and I find out the results of that tomorrow. Who knows what my obgyn is going to tell me about that. It would figure. Im so damn close and I just want to finish this out. I knew something would go wrong. ARGGGG!!
3/2/06 - Surgery officially postponed. Hopefully will know on 3/10 when it can be rescheduled.
5/4/2006 - I'm now 10 days post op and doing really well. The pain in my abdomen is going away, the pain in my back comes and goes (still think its gas trying to work its way out). I've still got this one bruise under the one incision that kinda worries me. I'm wondering if thats where my pants hit and just keeps irritating it. It doesn't hurt, but we'll see how it goes. Lost 19 lbs so far, VERY happy about that. YAY!
8-8-06 - Lets see, I'm 3 months and 14 days post op and I feel terriffic. I've lost 60 lbs and its so wonderful to have baggy clothes. I'm at a plateau right now that i've been at for a few weeks, so hopefully it will kick in again. I need to get exercising again. but so far so good. woohoo!!!

  My experience with insurance has been up and down and really wierd. I started off a year ago sept. with Cigna. Cigna denied me after first letter because i needed 6 mo. dr. supervised weight loss. I moved to LV and changed surgeons after my 6 mo. was completed. The DAY before they were going to submit my new letter, my company changed my insurance to BCBS. Which i thoguht was a good thing. After I submitted, they called my Surgery Center back after 3 days and denied my request for the LapBand because they said it wan't covered, but would cover the Bypass. So now i'm waiting for the final approval for the bypass, which will be ANY day now.
