I'm home and doing great!!!!

Dec 13, 2009

I had my surgery Dec. 7th, everything went great.  I was up and walking soon after recovery and off my morphine drip the next morning.  I have been feeling wonderful, getting all my fluids and protein in ( Not sure how  LOL).  As of today I have lost 28 lbs, that is starting with my 2 week pre-op diet, so I am ecstatic....Hopefully this journey continues to be this easy and productive, but only time will tell.  For right now though I am going to enjoy this ride and thank God for every thing he has blessed me with.  Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!!!

Update on Surgery Date

Nov 29, 2009

Ok, since I haven't actually wrote here in awhile, let me catch up......

My surgery in October got pushed back due to my surgeon being picky.  That's ok though, it is in my best interest.  Anyway, so now here I am going in to my second week of my sugar free liquid diet.  My surgery is this upcoming Monday, the 7th.  I am so excited it is really happening this time...  I had my pre-op appt. Thurs. and everything was just fine.  So now it is just (somewhat) smooth sailing until Monday....  Wish me luck and hopefully  I can make it through these last few days of liquid diet without hurting someone...LOL  Have a great day!!!!

Jul 16, 2009

I know I've not been updating like I should, but with the boys baseball and everything else, life has been hectic.  Anyway I went to my NUT appt. today and found out I am down 15 lbs. in the last few months and everything I am doing seems to be good with her.  So that is good news, but on to the GREAT news.....
I'M APPROVED......  I just got off the phone with my insurance coordinator and she told me I am approved and I can go ahead with the surgery.....  YAY, that means all i have left is some classes and testing and then I will be on my way to surgery.....  I can't help myself, I am sooooooo excited!!!!!!!  Hope everyone is well and have a great and blessed day!!!!!!!

Seminar at new hospital

Apr 07, 2009

I went to the first seminar at the hospital my insurance approves of last week, I had already heard most of the information though.  I did get to meet the doctors, which both of them seem very nice.  My insurance will only cover Dr. Stanish though, so I don't really have a choice on who I can go to..  Always something with my insurance...LOL  Anyway, they informed me that I will have to  have my 6 month diet almost completed before I can get my initial consult with the Dr, so it's looking like I won't be making the trip again until sometime the end of July.  My 6 mo. diet will not be over until the middle of August, then after I'm finished with my diet, I will have to attend the 4 mandatory educational classes the hospital requires.  Hopefully I can have all of that finished by the end of September and then maybe my surgery will be the end of October.  Who knows though, I just know I am tired of these hoops.  I would really like to have the surgery before the end of the year though.  I just found out that I am going to have to have hysterectomy in the next month, so I will have my coinsurance almost paid for because of that.  I don't want to have to pay all that money out of pocket twice.
Well, I have my next NUT appt. tomorrow, hopefully it isn't that bad.  I don't think I have lost any weight, because I quit smoking a little over 3 weeks ago and it doesn't seem like the scales have budged since then.  Oh well, hopefully everything goes ok.  I'll update everyone tomorrow.  Hope everyone is doing well, have a great day!!!!

1 month appt.

Mar 12, 2009

YAY!!!!!  I've been doing this diet for a month, so far so good.  I had my appt. yesterday with my doctor and my dietitian. I have lost 9 lbs. in a month.  The dietitian says that everything I am doing looks good to her and the only thing I need to change is to get more fiber.  I think I can handle that..  LOL So, my doc also thinks it's a load of crap that I have to drive 140 miles to a hospital b/c it's the only one my insurance will cover.  She told me that she was personally going to call Aetna and talk to them to find out why St. V's is not covered since they are a Center of Excellence.  I'm glad that I told her about it now, so maybe she will have a little influence on them.  So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed...  Other than that everything is going fine..  I hope everyone is doing well...........

Huge roadblock........

Feb 17, 2009

Well, I got a call from my case manager yesterday..  She informed me that I am now required to do a 6 month weight loss program instead of 3 and that Aetna is very strict on this policy.  Ok, well that's fine, I can handle that.   That aside here's the BIG problem, the hospital I thought I was going to be going to for some reason is not covered because it is not considered an "Institute of Quality" and the closest hospital is 140 miles away......So, now I have to start all over again and go to the consultations and support groups at this new hospital.  ARRRGGGHHHHH Why they couldn't tell me all of this when I first called to get information an WLS is beyond me.  I guess I'm just going to suck it up, cut my losses and get back on track, because this is something I need to do to be healthy.  Well, I think I sufficiently blew off some steam, so back to work for me........

3 month diet

Feb 12, 2009

I went to the dr yesterday to get started on my 3 month multi-disciplinary program.  It doesn't sound too bad, I get 1800 calories a day, which seems like a lot to me.  I have to do cardio and strength training 3 to 4 times a week, and check in with the doctor twice a month.  Doesn't sound bad at all and she said that the time will fly by so fast.  I did get some good news from the nurse.  She told me that in all the years they have been doing these programs, they have only had 1 person denied by their insurance; but it was their (the dr office) fault b/c they left something out of the paperwork, fixed it and the patient got approved.  Hopefully all goes well with mine also.....  I guess I need to go shopping this weekend and get all the good stuff to start my diet.  I'm so excited, I hope time does fly by, I'm ready to kick start this journey........

Starting the journey!!!

Feb 10, 2009

Ok, so I went to my initial consultation January 21st.  It was full of a lot of helpful information.  The downfall is with my insurance, I will have to go through a 3 month multi-disciplinary program in order for them to consider paying for this.  Well, I go to my dr. and dietitian to get started on this tomorrow, I'm so excited. Hopefully things go well.  If any one else has had to go through this, any advice would be greatly appreciated.  I need all the help I can get, I don't want the insurance company to have any reason to deny me.....
