I have struggled most of my life with my weight. I wanted to have the surgery for years, but my insurance would not cover it. I guess in a way I got lucky and had a lot of internal bleeding in my stomach, so they had to remove my whole stomach.
have had just about every complication imaginable. Lost most of my hair, I was severely malnourished, got sepsis 2 times, had my duodenum and intestines rupture, was in a coma and on life support. I finished off the year with my 12th operation.
Since I do not even have a pouch, no matter what I tried I could not hold anything down. I finally gave up on food and are just doing protein shakes. Now that I am on these and take prescription vitamins and mineral and am doing much better.
Even with all of the problems that I had, I am happy that I had the surgery. My diabetes is gone and overall health is so much better as I have lost 133 pounds.
I talked to so many people who do not want to go through the surgery fearing complications like mine. But what I did learn that the risks of being morbidly obese are far worse and cause more problems and deaths than the surgery. My doctor told me the problems that I had are so rare, it was less than a quarter of 1 percent.
I am now 37 pounds from my goal. I am a size 8, which I could live with, but I am really determined to meet my goal.
