Donna M.
Here is some of my story. I am from Rhode Island originally. I have been overweight since I was six. My first memory of eating compulsively was when I was eight. I'm 51 now so there have been many many memories of overeating in my life. I am sick and tired of it and I decided I have no other choice but to have WLS to save my life! I have eaten and DIETED my way through Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and North America. I am a recovering alcoholic and have been a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 26 years. I have a very supportive family. I've been a job developer for 9 years with a local agency working with persons with psychiatric disabilities. I have the support of my agency regarding my decision to have this surgery. It was a tough decision. I began the journey in Jan '06 when I attended the mandatory class at Travis AFB. This is when I found out my BMI was so high. Initially I was scheduled for the RNY. I was told that I would not be able to have the surgery laproscopically because my BMI is so high. Thankfully, I researched other surgeons in our healthcare system. I met Dr.Lee only once but she seemed to exude such confidence and was so knowledgeable, I decided to have the VG. I am fortunate that my surgery is being covered by my insurance.
My husband is retired from the USN. We lived in Italy for 4 years, Puerto Rico for 3 (our son, Chip was born there) and in Japan for 6.5. We love to travel in the US now. I really miss the travel abroad. I am a busy, active woman. I enjoy getting out and meeting with friends. I love meeting new people too. I am writing this late at night as I just found out how to do it. I hope to update it soon. Pictures will be appearing soon.
