Hello everyon!

I'm 29 years-old, 5'5" & 315 lbs and currently living in Ft. Worth, Texas. I'm a transplant, have only been here with a year and am originally from Portland, Oregon.

In Oregon, I only knew one person who had WLS - since moving to Texas, I've met 7 people at my job alone who have had the bypass and 3 who had the lap band.

I had thought about it before, but never thought insurance would cover it - I have no co-morbidities, but do have family history of high blood pressure, diabetes & high cholestrol. I know it's only a matter of time before I'm next in line.

In September, I was in a training class with a group of women at work I had not met and everyone had to go around and say something interesting about themselves that had happened in the past year.  I said that I moved to Texas from the West Coast and the lady next to me said she had lost 100 lbs in the past year.

Needless to say, after class I asked her what she did - she mentioned she had WLS and told me I should consider it. She said it changed her life for the better and she feels blessed ever since.

We're very lucky that our employer does not exclude the procedure, but our insurance is about to change in the coming year and since our insurance is changing for the worse, I'm afraid they may exclude it in the new year to save the company $$$.

I sent in my packet to Dr. Kim's office at North Hills Hospital on 10/25/2006. Tomorrow, I'll call them to make sure it has been received and then ask them for an estimate on the time they believe it will take my insurance to get back to me with a decision about my request for surgery. The following week, I think I'll begin harrassing my insurance company, UHC just to keep me in the front of their mind.....10/29/2006.
