Well, It was 3 weeks and I saw Dr. Teng. I originally lost the 10 pounds he wanted me to lose,...but 2 days before I went to see him, my asthma acted up and I started my steroid treatments, so I gained 2 lbs. back :o( but now he wants me to work on losing more the next 2 weeks before I go see him again, all my blood work came back okay except my liver is showing real fatty, so he wants me to continue the fat-free, high protein diet for 2 more weeks. Had to light a fire under insurance, still no answer on my surgery, they claim they never recieved the letter of necessity from Dr. Teng, well, they got it again today so any day now I will have an answer. Also, last night I went to the local support group meeting of other patients of Dr. Teng, it was fun, full of information, Dr. Teng is a very very nice, down to earth very cautious Dr. I highly recommend him and his support group for all your surgery questions and needs. I will update when I get my answer.Wish me luck!!

Dear Dina: Just wanted to wish you good luck with everything coming up... I'm like you, I don't understand why they want you to lose weight before your weight loss surgery... Especially since your BMI is only a little over 45. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me... Oh well, I wish you the best of luck and just wanted to let you know someone out there cares! Well, I saw Dr. Teng yesterday(June2, 2003). He said my surgery will not go through if I don't lose 10 pounds in 3 weeks. Ironic don't you think?? I have to lose weight to have weight loss surgery!!. He said my BMI is too high and losing the weight will put me in a lesser category. Plus my thyroid bloodwork must come back showing my medicine is regulated right now. And I need an Upper GI still before I go back to him in 3 weeks. Well, I sure hope it's allworth it. I can't wait to breathe easier and sleep better again. Dr. Teng also told me that with my breathing problems it would be better to do the open RNY not the laproscopic one...oh well another scar :o( . Wish me luck I will update you after my checkup. :o)
